I went to this school from kindergarten to seventh grade. It was a really great experience and it really prepared me for the academic expectations in highschool. When I left St.Gregory to start 8th grade I was immediately placed into honors classes and did extremely well throughout highshool.St.Gregory was also my musical beginning.I sang the Rose mass and was in the choir.I am now 19 and majoring in Vocal Music and minoring in French at Northwestern State University.St.Gregory will do an amazing job at educating children and giving them the drive, ambition ,and most importantly a strong connection with God for them to succeed, but ultimately success will depend on whether or not the child chooses to apply these values to his or her life. I do admit that a few of the teachers were very closed minded and arrogant, but after 5 years, those teachers may not work there anymore.
This school has experienced a dramatic turn around in the past three years in no small part to both a new principal and a new pastor. They have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of all students who attend St. Gregory. This turn around is evidenced by the fact that St. Gregory posted the highest scores for SACS accreditation of any school in the Houma-Thibodaux Archdiocese. The entire faculty are certified teachers and the administrative staff has many years of experience at St. Gregory. This school is a joy to teach at.
This is an excellent little school. They absolutely do cater to children with special needs. The previous poster must have had a child that needs discipline and she equates that to having 'special needs'.
St. Gregory School does have a very friendly and warm academic environment; however, they do little to accommodate children with special needs. The school caters to a very mainstreamed student cliente. Any threats (academic and especially behavior) which disrupt their MOLD and narrow style of teaching learning are treated as taboo.
I have one student at St. Gregory and 2 who have moved on to Vandebilt. All three are doing great and I feel have been well prepared for learning, spiritually and for life! St. Gregory is a wonderful small school with a family atmosphere. The extra's for such a small school have been very rewarding - Beta Club, Just Say No, weekly Masses, 4-H, Caritas, choir, after school care - and more!
My child loves the school, classmates, staff and the priest. The priest is so good with the kids. I am also very pleased with the school.
