This school has a problem with control of their students. The ones with money get special treatment the ones without get the short end of the stick. This school is as far from the chatholic beliefs as can be.The academics are not even close to what a child should know heading in to high school.
I am a student a CCS. CCS is an awsome school. This is my 2nd year at CCS I am a 8th grader now and about to graduate. When i first came to CCS they made me feel at home. The teachers are very helpful.
I am very disappointed in this school's ability to prepare it's students for High School. My daughter was on Honor Roll for years, and we anticipated an easy transition to St. Thomas Moore. We were sadly mistaken. She ended up completely unready for the higher demands, and ended up making C's, D's and F's her first year in High School. If you want sports, this school is great. If you want education, look elsewhere, unless you want to spend thousands of dollars at Sylvan getting your child up to speed.
CCS offers a unique balance of a traditional Catholic education, strong academics, and excellent athletics. Students at CCS always seem to be well-rounded people, and the parental support is unparalled. A superb school.
I attended Cathedral Carmel School for nine years and loved every minute of it. CCS provides children with the experience of middle school and jr. high that all children should have. The curriculum prepares very well for high school and college along with providing a fun, safe learning environment. The teachers are especially wonderful; I even thought I learned more from some of them that I learned from my high school teachers. Not only do you learn about typical subjects but you also get to learn good moral values even if you aren't catholic. The faculty and staff are very kind and caring for each and every child. The athletics program is also incomparable with any other. As well as striving to be the best they can, coaches and parents teach the children to win and lose in a proper manner. You can't go wrong with the tigers!
Cathedral Carmel School (CCS) is a wonderful school. The acadimics are excellent and so is the athletic program. And the teachers are very kind. If you are looking for a school to send you child/children here, there is no need to look further!
CCS athletics are the best in Lafayette. 5-0 in football with a catholic league champoinship. they are expected to win in track and baseball. they came in 2nd in basketball and are going to state in science olympiad for those who think education is a problem. Fot those who don't know, CCS has a cross town rival in Fatima and they probably write all of the bad reviews. CCS is a great school. I would consider it greatly when choosing education or athletics.
Cathedral Carmel is a terrible school. The only sport that is good is quiz bowl. In all the other sports they are very cocky. They also do not prepare for High School.
I love the parents and children at this school, however like the previous poster there is not extra help should any child need it. Also, there was a radical change in academics when teachers from entire grades quit. The new curriculum is insane and not productive to a positive learning environment. The administration is defensive and unyeilding. I seriously thought about pulling my children.
CCS's athletics are great. The students are taught to respect while you play. One example, In basketball you are taught to be physical, you are also taught to say thank you to the referees. The players also excell and win championships every year.
Our family has been at this school since 1994 when our 1st child started Pre-K. It was a great school when we started there but if I had to choose a school today it would not be CCS. Their academic programs are not up to high school standards. The loss of good administrators and teachers has hurt this school. This was a school where each kid was treated fairly no matter who they were related to or how much money their parents donated. As we were told by the principal when we decided to choose this school,'Each child is a special person and is treated as such', this is no longer so. In my opinion it is no longer a Catholic School, more of a private school.
The school is average as long as your child does not have a learning problem. My child has dyslexia and the school will not do any modifications or accomodations according to her evaluation. We struggle hours at night with homework. It is very frustrating.
Cathedral Carmel is an excellent school for all elementary and jr. high age children. The curriculum is extensive and prepares them for high school and college. The teachers are wonderful and are completely involved with all their students. I would reccomend Cathedral Carmel to any parent. I have 5 children, all of which are or have been students at Cathedral Carmel.
