very good school. I was a student and never felt that anyone was against military going to school there. our town was built on the military.

Very unhappy with school. They will not listen to parents, and this rating system is wrong. Read comments instead of ratings.

I don't like it. You can feel that the town people don't like military children in their schools.

More interested in dress code and not interested in listening to a student or parent. I, personally, was told the teachers are always right and dismissed when trying to talk to them.

This is THE worst school that I have seen in a long while. Books are definitely used, abused, and most of all OUTDATED (pages are either written on or worse completely missing)! Not really sure about some of these teachers as it seems that some (not all) are there just to watch the time and earn a paycheck (so, to get a good teacher is like playing Russian Roulette ). The overall school appearance (interior/exterior) is also substandard (not sure what they were doing prior to the beginning of school). As far as this school is compared to others in the U.S., I believe they are not at the level they should be. In my opinion, they are way below average! I would search Private Schools if one wants their child to succeed or be equivalent (or close to) with the U.S average for their age/grade. Very disappointing!!!

This school is horrible...My son has had nothing but problems since day one....they seem to be more worried about what kind of punishment to hand out more then the teaching capabilities of the teacher...And the way they handle serious situations is a joke.. if you decide to send your children to LJHS be prepared...my son was bullied and he stuck up for himself and he was treated as though he was the bully and he recieved ISS for telling the truth.... and the way they handle situations like this one is discussing..i came from ft drum NY and we never had such problems as we do here..if i were you i would do a lot more research and find a different school... this school should be rated high on the disappointing scale

I am a former student to LJHS and I loved it. The teachers were great and would help you when you needed help, their doors were always opened. Yes, the sports did have a lot of the attention; however, if you didn't play sports you didn't go unnoticed. The PE program did need a little work; however, we were always doing something-whether it was running track all second semester, or playing softball, dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, or weekly mile runs-we hardly ever had an easy day. I miss LJHS and would love to go back.

The school is in the heart of Leesville; therefore, athletics are a huge attraction there but military friendly and parental involvement as they say to be just isn't the case. They don't offer PTO nor do they accept parents to become involved in functions. Poor education, poor parental and outside involvement and poor option-

I used to go to this school and I agree with most of the parents and students that this school is not very good at the teaching. I personally think they only cared about if your socks werent the same color or if you didnt have a belt on. I just moved to Fort Drum New York and I love this school. They are more relaxed and not stuck up. They also dont care about what we were. I feel sorry for people that go to Polk. Good Luck.

I sure you here this a lot, but I didn't like the fact that this was a public school and the students had to wear uniforms. I know there are reasons behind it, such as reducing discrimination or helping out the poorer families that can not buy clothing up to today's teenagers, but other schools in the world have no uniform dress code. And also, the teachers only cared about the leap test and only gave us busy work. After LJHS, I moved to Italy and went to an american public school( closer to terrorism that LJHS) and we wore anthing we wanted with a bendable dress code. They let us express ourselves.(AMERICA). And another thing P.E. All we did in P.E at LJHS was nothing productive. The teacher would just sit and read the newspaper. In Italy, we learn how to stay fit and be healthy. But LJHS helped me to grow up!Thank You.

I am not a parent but a student at this school. My expirence here is wonderful. The teachers care a lot about a student. I've had teachers that would have their classsroom open in the morning so they can help you. They would basically put the student in front of anything.

I am very unhappy with this school so far. They are very far behind technology wise and academically. The teachers seem to not care much about the children and their education. The teachers seem more concerned about the Leap testing, how the children will score on that because that is how the teachers and the school is scored. There are military children that come in the middle of the school year and have to take the leap test which test on LA History, when in fact the child has not even had LA History. Teachers are lazy which in return produces lazy students. Something really needs to be done here. There are many teachers in this district that will not even put their own children into the school. They home school them after school hours or send them to private school. Is'nt that sad. Not to mention frightening!!!

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
