I Would Say that PHS is a great school. The only problem is the over bearing protocol. I know they mean well, but regulating the color of the belts students wear and what color undershirt shows that authority figures either at the school board or the school itself are on a bit of a power trip. The academics are excellent and the many programs are exemplary. The strict, sometimes silly, and ironically childish strictness shows someone over at the school board needs to relax.
This school has one of the best performing arts departments in the state. For the past decade the drama dept has performed several major Broadway productions each year, including Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, Jekyll and Hyde, Guys and Dolls, plus a host of others. Dance students take part in these productions, as dancing is a major aspect of Broadway musical performances; people accusing the debt of not having a dance program need to do a little more research. The Choir, which has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, out-performs others in the district and state; most of the district honor choir consists of students from PHS, and the school consistently has the most students place in the LMEA All-State Choir. The band and orchestra also out-perform other programs in the district; the orchestra had 5 members place in the LMEA All-State Orchestra this year. Academically, the school has the highest performance score of any school in Rapides parish; there isn t any evidence to suggest that discipline here isn t any more strict than at other schools.
I can't believe a parent would complain about their child being taught responsibility. I have a child at this school and will have two more in the future. I applaud PHS for helping me teach them to be timely. I work in a court room every day where people are sent to jail for being late for court. Hopefully the students at PHS will know better.
Some may find this school to be far too strict with their disciplinary actions, but with a school as large as Pineville High School, the administration needs to be tough. I take my hat off the administration - not only do they hold their students accountable, but the faculty and staff as well. Keep up the great work!
The school is tuff but they are in fact one of the best schools when it comes down to acdemics and extracurricular activities such as the JROTC program is a exlcent program for students to take part in as well as a staff of wonderful teachers just the one main problam is the strickness of the admenistration. but all in all this is a good school
The Performing Arts Program at Pineville is an excellent opportunity for students to express themselves and to also grow culturally and socially. While they may not offer a dance class, by joining the acting program offered by the school students are instructed in not only vocal and drama techniques, they also recieve dance classes from private instructors for each specific perfomance.
I have found this school to be far too strict with their disciplinary actions. The administration seems to think that their actions can never be too harsh or unreasonable - which in some cases, they actually are. The students are not allowed to attend class if 6 minutes late. So rather than taking action then allowing them to return to class, the administrators feel it is better for students to wait until the end of their just started class in the front office. Also, the performing arts program does not provide dance as they clearly say they do on their website and handbooks.
This is a great high School!
