I feel that the school should more educational activities for our children. Our children can do more than just play sports! Give them incentives to do better and reward them with trips to educational places other than Baton Rouge. If we can raise money to send our children to play basketball that far we can send them to learn. Let them know that life extends beyond Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas. They can go as far as the stars if they set their minds to it but we have to show them how and encourage them not block and set limitiations.
I believe, no I know Armstrong is a good school because of personal experiece. I attended Armstrong Middle in Rayne, La and I got the best education. The teachers are wonderful, and I found plenty of teachers I can count on, regardless of what they say about they are not there to be your friend. The school's foundation has nothing to do with what students learn, its what they choose to learn and the teachers. Believe the teachers are very good.
Armstrong's test scores are the highest of a middle school in Acadia Parish. The teachers know their material and teach it well. AMS has a low tolerance for disruptive students, dealing with them sternly so that all students can function. The administration does not play favorites when it comes to discipline. All children are treated the same. The building itself is old, having been a former high school before integration in the 60's. If more parents were involved (really involved, not just showing up for a football game), the physical plant could be updated with teamwork. My son thoroughly enjoys Armstrong. I am incredibly pleased with its entire educational package.
I don't like this school very much. It's a very 'dark' school. Much work need to be done on the school. I belive the surondings of a student affects his or her work. The teachers have also said things such as 'I'm here to teach you not to be your best friend.' Children and teens at this ages are looking for someone they can turn to. Being to embarassed to talk to thier parents, teachers are thier second choice. Teachers need to become friends with the students to be able to teahc them better. If the student doesn't like the teacher then he or she will only ignore the teacher or try to tune them out.
