I couldn't wait for my child to get out of this school. Most of the teachers seem as though they either have better things to be doing, or are so burned out on the disciplinary issues that they have given up. More time is spent on the chaos taking place in the classes then actual learning. The principal is not helpful in any way when you go to him with a concern, in fact is quite offended and dismissive. I attended this school as a child and have very fond memories. The education my child "received" here in NO WAY compares to my personal experience. This school as gone down hill, and it's a shame because the elementary school is fantastic. I'm so sad my youngest has to come to this school next year. Involvement is low and extra curriculars outside of sports are non existent. We are very seriously considering homeschooling for 6-8 grade.
Winslow Junior High, many teachers are very unorganized, using the grading system incorrectly, depriving students of the grades that they deserve. I recommend that they take a class on how to use the Infinite Campus online grading system correctly.
This school has many teachers that really care about the education of children. Most will work with you or your child if you ask. Like most people, the faculty and staff are not mind readers so you have to ask. They are fair, but you and your child have to meet them half way. They are trying to prepare your child(ren) for high school and life after high school.
This school does not have academic tracked classes, but it does place math students by ability. There are all the basic sports available and also jazz band and civil rights team. Parents can choose to be as involved as they want depending on the amount of time they have available.
