Others should know that JCE has 4 CALS classrooms for special needs (Austism) and is doing an awesome job! I actually recommended an externship there or at least an observation to a Towson University Special Education student last Wednesday. Ms. Bartus and the others are doing awesome work there.

Great faculty and staff that really care about the students and make efforts to meet the needs of diverse students, including those with special social and emotional needs.

Johnnycake has the most dedicated and caring teachers that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. When problems come up, they are dealt with quickly and efficiently and a positive attitude prevails.

My school is an amazing place where students grow academically and socially. The parents are very supportive and the teachers work incredibly hard to provide safe and happy learning environments.

My school is challenging. We definitely have our fair share of issues, however, we have a close knit caring staff that try to do their best every day. The relationships that develop between the staff and students are those that should be emulated. We could certainly always improve and we always need, teachers, classrooms, etc but our school has a lot of heart.

Johnnycake Elementary is a great school, I feel so sad that my twins have to leave the school, because they are going to middle school next year. they were there since Pre-K. I will missed the staff and the greatest teachers, specially Mr & Mrs Detwiler, they are EXCELLENT and LOVING teachers. I am so greatful about this school because my girls love them, and so do I. I think, words are not enough to appreciate the great job that they are doing with our kids. God bless all. I will miss all, and I am really sure that my girls too. Mercedes Nadal

Johnnycake is the hidden gem of BCPS. I can confidently say that you will not find a more dedicated, creative, and positive faculty and administration. The students feel encouraged to think divergently and take academic risks. In addition to the rigorous class expectations, students have extracurricular opportunities to participate in guitar club, a cappella ensemble, 24 club, mentoring programs, extra reading and math support, and recorder ensemble. The building is bursting with students striving to demonstrate the Johnnycake values of community, hard work, caring, and safety. Whereas many other schools in the county are struggling to make the shift to incorporate the Common Core, the "Cake" has always been ahead of the curve with its progressive approach to consistent flexible grouping, small group learning opportunities, cooperative learning stations, games and experiential learning, and seamless technology incorporation. Each classroom is equipped with a smartboard and student computers. There is a computer lab and 3 portable laptop carts. Johnnycake is a place where learning differences are honored and resilience and independence are fostered.

My daughter has attended Johnnnycake for the last 3 years. In the beginning the school had alot of issues. The principle was not involved with parents or students as much as the new pinciple Mrs Maddox. She has defintley has made major improvments with new staffing and programs. Everyday she is in the hall way watch and interacting. As a parent it's great to see someone lead by example.

I am an involved parent that is in the school on a regular basis. My child is an honor roll student, however I give most credit to myself not the school. The behavior is so out of hand I'm surprised the teachers find time for instruction. The scores at the school are still low, (see 2007 results). The parents are not involved with the children at this school and its shows in the kids. They may be working to improve things but its not enough.

In response to the review that panned the school, the teachers, and the test scores, I can only say that it is a very outdated opinion. I was just in the school yesterday as a substitute and could not have asked for a better class. The students were well behaved, studious, cooperative, and on-task. All classes in the hallways were orderly. The administrative staff was visilble and verbal throughout the day. All support personnel were accessiblea and productive. Please visit this school again. I think you will find that quite a change has been made. Yours Truly, a happy sub teacher

The teachers at this school could not care more about their students. They do everything they can for their stuents and more. The parent envolvement is ok, but could be improved with a little work from us parents.

This is a very unstructured school. The classrooms are unruly and the teachers are inconsistent. The test scores are low. The parent involvement is low as well. I would not recommend this school for any child who wishes to excel.

Johnnycake is an excellent school. The new PBIS that was implemented almost 3 years ago has really improved the school and the disciplinary issues. Now the school is on the right trackt to success. The MSA and CTBS scores have increased as well. I love this school and my child had grown alot.
