My kids are thriving here. It is close to the beach and work. I am happy with the staff and overall teaching methods.

This school had great reviews on here however, after being a parent at this school in this year 2012 it has a lack of security where the all children can run in between the trailers and the main building. They also allow all the children to wash their hands in one bucket of water since their is not running water in the art trailer without use of hand sanitizer. The leadership at this building has lack of experience when it comes to being management and this needs to be addressed. When is comes to Health and Safety this school has a lot of area for improvement.

My children both Pre-k and Elementary regard their teachers as if they were family, they love them and love school. Their teachers as well as staff treat my children as if they were their own. It is an encouraging and comforting learning environment. The school motto of respect to yourself, others and your surroundings is such an important part of building the foundation to who they will become.

The teachers really care and take time with the students. Especially right now with all of the budget cuts they are spending their own hard earned money to buy much needed supplies.

My son attended third grade here, I cannot say enough about Mrs. Armour and the way she nurtures and instills a love of learning. She was by far the best teacher any of my three children have had. The school overall is fantastic. They reward children for showing respect and character and you get the feeling that the principal is someone who genuinely cares about your kids.

My child's attitude has always been positive about heading off to school each day.To me this says it all. He has been lucky with having great teachers, but feel that I am lucky in this regard. I think maybe a couple of teachers who have been around for many years forget that our children are very precious humans.

We moved here about 10 years ago from newark, de. (where all of my family lives), our oldest then was 4. I was very unhappy and homesick until our son started kindergarden at Showell. We are now, 10 years later, putting our third and youngest child through Showell. We couldn't ask for a better school for our children, the staff is wonderful and the school itself is beautiful.

Fantastic school! My daughter is in her third year with her third fabulous, highly competent teacher. They really CARE about the students there. The school has exceeded all of my expectations. Great play areas and cafeteria too. The school nurse is WONDERFUL and so kind to the children.

Showell has the most professional staff of educators. I am a proud parent of a soon-to-be first grader and she was given the love and support that she needed to have a super kindergarten year. I commend her teacher and all the others for their hard work. Showell also has the best PTA I have ever seen! They are very supportive.

S.E.S. Is the best example of how to give the best education for our children, academics are excelent and they are very worried about developing their caracthers too.

We didn't move to Berlin for this school in particular, but it would have been worth it. I love that the school places so much importance on character, even announcing children's good deeds over the loudspeaker in the morning announcements! This is definitely a place that encourages good and responsible behavior. I may move again, but it will NOT be before my son has finished third grade at Showell!

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science. The MSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
