This school recieves students from Oakdale Elementary, which is a level 9/10 school, and feeds into Oakdale High which is also a level 10 school. The surrounding community is beautiful and the properties are large. This school has high academic performance, and great extracurricular offerings. I am very impressed with the school and my child's pride for attending there.
Oakdale is a great school, but i wish i could have a bit more of a challenge. I went to a local private school for elementary school and I'm now in eighth grade. There is still overlap in science and history from what I have already learned, and i don't think there is a satisfactory L.A. class in the whole school as I had harder reports and a larger vocabulary leaving third grade than now. I realize this is due to county curriculum. For the most part, I love all of the teachers i have had. I love how almost anyone at this school is approachable, but it does take a little while to find your clique at the beginning of each year. Once term one is over, there is no mixing between cliques, but not any rivalries or fights. The best parts of my middle school experience are the plays in theatre and science olympiad. These are very fun activities to enhance you academically and socially. I'm enjoying the atmosphere at Oakdale, but am constantly looking for a challenge.
My son is in 7th grade at OMS. I am happy that he has adjusted socially and that the school is clean and generally positive, with some bullying. Nothing that could not be overcome. I feel he is safe there and in good hands. Academically, I have to say that I wish he was challenged more and given more homework for practice and mastery. Some of the students do not take learning seriously in class and I don't get the feeling that this is being addressed by all teachers. His grades are higher in classes that have more homework assignments and a controlled classroom. Overall, I feel good about his attending OMS, we can always supplement at home.
Math is strong (by 7th grade advanced, honors and merit level offered) but L.A after 6th grade i(6th grade was good only b/c teacher Ms.Kuhns was good) is POINTLESS, terrible, not challenging even at honors level--I have to home school L.A over summer with vocabulary etc. Science and History would be fine if they would have honors level courses and not mix in the kids who don't care and goof off with those who do care and want to learn. Best class my child has was I&I , at least the students had to THINK a bit. Extremetly mediocre education (other than math and I&I) although the students for the most part are nice and no major social problems.
I found that both my children that went through OMS struggled in the 9th grade, especially in Language Arts. On the other side, PBIS is alive and much stronger at OMS than at NMMS. Overall an average school
The staff is the best! They are kind, caring, and tough when they need to be. We couldn't ask for our children to be in better hands.
i love it!! i go here and the teachers are really nice and th cafiteria food is edible, unlike deer crossing
OMS is a very family oriented community school. The academics are average, not super challenging, but okay. Teachers seem happy; staff is pleasant to deal with. Students can be a little unwelcoming to newcomers, but it is middle school, after all. Overall, an average school.
I love Oakdale Middle School because this is a school that still values morales and discipline therefore children benefit from it and it shows on the MSA scores. The teachers are awsome and such a great influence and example to the students. I am proud of OMS.
This school has bad l.a., math, science, and socail studies classes are totally so not teaching anyone anything. The office people are cold and not socialable. This school is not hard at all. This school needs lots of help.
OMS has a fantastic staff & administration. Staff always appear to be smiling & happy; seems like a GREAT place to WORK!
This school is a great school. It has the best 7th grade math teacher in the whole county in my opinion. The staff is great and I have loved spending my middle school years at this school. They also have a great learning for life program. I have gotten better grades at this school than any other school. I am proud to say that I go to oakdale middle and can't imagine going to any other school.
Oakdale Middle School is unsatisfactory for many reasons. Most adults would say it is an excellent school because the test scores are high, and these reviews are in my opinion false. The main reason Oakdale was so incredibly miserable for me was the admin. and the way they dealt with issues. I was harassed by a group of very popular girls at OMS, who were also believed to be some of the best students there(as was i) and some of the girls were transfer students. Rather than deal with the problem as FCPS says they should, the principle did nothing and the admin made me feel horrible for telling them of the problems. I would not recommend going to this school unless there are no other options and you are not concerned about socailly acceptable conduct by the students and a horrible principal.
The quality of the academic program is very average. The program lacks the ability to reach the students that need to be challenged. The behavior on buses is very unacceptable. School has good presentation-- it is very clean! The front office staff seems very cold. I would not recommend this school.
I am an eighth grade student at Oakdale Middle School, and I absolutely love attending. All of the teachers are amazing. They make learning fun, and I actually look forward to going to all of my classes. I feel really safe at Oakdale, and am confident that in an emergency the staff and students will know exactly what to do, because we have gone over and practiced safety drills numerous amounts of times. I am extremely grateful that I get the pleasure of attending Oakdale Middle, and couldn't imagine going to school anywhere else.
This school shows a lack of everything. Everything that they work on gets cancelled. Many of their dances were cancelled due to the disorganization. The buses were just unbelievable. They had about 80 kids on one bus, and tried to split them up. Now a bunch of kids have to stay at school for a half an hour. This school just does not impress me at all
I am proud to say that I am a teacher at Oakdale Middle. We have the best students, teachers, administration, and guidance office that anyone could ask for. Our technology is wonderful, and adds a lot to the classroom experience. The entire staff at Oakdale is very supportive, and I consider myself lucky to teach there.
Oakdale Middle has an excellent staff. The teachers and the administration work very hard to ensure students'success. I am proud to say that my child attends OMS.
