this school is exciting. although it isnt a school that my family likes, its pretty awsome.
I went to middle school here . While I did get a few good teachers , most of the people I ever dealt with here were not very pleasant . I really did not enjoy it here and lots of the staff were very unprofessional , except for a few of my eighth grade teachers and my guidance counselor , who was helpful throughout my whole experience here .
i want my child to go there and still be able to go even if he lives in dc he can catch the metro to eisenhower
I think a lot could be changed for the better, but to be fair everyone is doing what they can. Some teachers can do more than others because they're not as worn down. On the other hand making any situation better is always a group effort. If you want this school to be a better place you have to do your part with your children. Now, the first thing they can do is make a better schedule. Students should not be in elective classes with mixed grades unless the curriculum requires students be sorted by experience. All subjects are not treated equally when it comes to scheduling at this school. The Washington Post recently did an article on what causes the most burnout at work. One of the top reasons was workers feeling like they don't make progress at work. How can a teacher feel progress with their students if the age/experience of the students are mixed? Why would you teach Pre-algebra and Algebra II at the same time? You wouldn't. Just because electives aren't tested by the state doesn't mean the parameters needed for student achievement should be ignored.
This school is one of the worst schools that my child has ever attended. Th staff is unprofessional and there are fights almost on a weekly basis and not enough is done by the staff to make it a safe school. Very few good teachers in the school and the teaching is poor. My child can't focus on learning with the violence that goes on a frequent basis!!!!
I like this school. There are so many afterschool activities that we can choose from - to name a few: yearbook, magazine, poetry club, Black Saga, AVID tutoring, Eagle Club after school tutoring, gospel choir, cheer-leading, STep Team, girl's and boy's basketball, softball and soccer, guitar and piano classes, and special tutoring offered by specific teachers. The kids being arrested belong to their parents, they are to be raised (I hope) by their parents not the school, so its not the school's fault and is no reflection on the school.
The staff in this school is very unprofessional and the education taught to the children is not up to standards. They dont even provide tutoring if the child needs it and see he needs help. The school is dirty, I walked into the office and saw a roach crawling. Everytime I have gone to the school to pick up my child early there is always a cop there arresting a student. This does not tell me that they have any good values. I personally am not too happy with the school.
This school is very good it provide us with programs and extra-curricular activies. And I'm in 7th grade doing 9th grade math. AVID is also very good so I've heard !
i am a student at his school this is my first year i think it is a great school
i am a student here at eisenhower and i say that it is an OK school. there are teachers who care and want to help. the problem is not with the teachers but the students. the kids arent listening and want to listen to music or text all day. the school might be a litttle out of shape but with a little help from the students and parents we can make it a better place. the kids complain that the school is dirty but they are the ones messing it up. there are some very nice points about the school and people need to see that.
DDEMS is still proving to be the worst experience we have ever had! We have successfully transferred our child out of this school, but not without one last glimpse of why we had to do so. Undisputable incompetience to the very end!
I attended Eisenhower in my 7th and 8th grade year. This was a great school. I'm not trying to say that these parents are over exaggerating but something close to it. All you have to do in this school is be prepared and learn. The problem is not the school, is the students that attend it. When I was in 8th grade, it was the first year we had to wear uniforms and all these girls would be desperate to not wear them. That's on them and on the parents, not on the school. Parents have full responsability to know how their children are performing in school. Teachers are there to teach not to tell your child to stop listening to their iPop and stop talking while they are trying to instruct the class. The teachers were great, the staff has been doing what they can.
I am not a fan of PG County Schools at all! Eisenhower is horrible, period. Some of the Teachers are ok but you even have to constantly call them to see how your child is doing. Luckily I am an involved Parent becuase, they don't volunteer info. until report card time. But what I am mostly disappointed in are the lack of school activities. The school is run down. The only benefit I've seen at this school is the mandatory uniform program, and that even has it's flaws. If you plan to move to Laurel invest in a private school!
This is my daughters second year here. Last year I had to go to the school 4 times about the same teacher - This year is much better. No one has time to continue to take off from school but if you make it known - it makes a big difference. Out of all her teachers last year only one was a problem - the others would call if she acted out or was missing homework. This year they arent doing that as much - I guess I need to make my yearly presence known again. Activities are great - coaches are like father/mother figures. Overall - I'm a happy parent.
My Daughter currently goes to this school and I have only been to one PTSA and I have to call the office to see when it was. No dates are posted on the web site of current for further PTSA meeting. So I have to keep lines of communication open with my daughter to make sure that she is doing what is necessary to get into college. It a shame that they stop the magnet program in Prince Georges county.
DDEMS Has caring teachers and administrators. If you as a parent take an active interes in the school and your child this will be a great place for your children. Both of my daughters went to Eisenhower and had good experiences. We got in volved in the PTSA, and got to know the Principal and Counselors. They in turn got to know our daughters and were very attentive to their needs. Our youngest is classified as TGLD, Talented-Gifted and Learning Disabled and was on an IEP. We found the accommodations and attention of the teachers and counselors to be first rate.
I have 3 sons one of which now attends Eisenhower. Thank God he is a child that is gifted and excels in all subjects, because the staff and administration at Eisenhower is terrible. I feel the entire teaching and administrative staff should be revamped in order to get this school back on its feet. I am currently trying to relocate in order to keep my other 2 sons from attending this school. The PG County Board really should look into improving Eisenhower. The children walk around the school cursing, fighting, and the male students physically assult the female students right in front of the principles office. I went to pick up my child early one day and they had no clue where he was. The office staff told me to go look for him without an escort. I found him and he walked out without informing anyone!
I am an eighth grader at Eisenhower middle school and i find the school to be well developed. The principle is a very good man and he plans fun activities only if the children are doing well in academical areas. This encourages the students to work hard in all classes. Even though the building isnt in best of shape, the teachers are well involved with the student learning process. Extracurricular activities also encourage the students to do well because you must have a 2.0 to be involed. If you want your child to attend a good school, EMS is a very well learning building. Although, I do believe the bathrooms could use a paint job and there could be higher test scores the building is otherwise in good shape. The students may misbehave, but this is not the teachers fault because most of the students misbehave on their own.
I am a parent to a son and daughter who are either attending the school or who has been promoted from the school. I find that my children have done well at this school due to the teacher's love for the students and the encouragements from them. Although the school has encounted many suspensions upon the students, that is the fault of the parents who let their children act up in such a manner. The school is not acountable for these suspensions. The teachers are great to our children. I would advise people to send their children to Eisenhower. It is an outstanding school with high test scores. It is and overall very well developed learning center.
In 2003 this school was in a high rating amongst parents and students, I have two children and my oldest was enrolled during the 2002/2003 era. However, this school has currently went to the bottom of the rung, since my second child has attended (2004). The new principal is never aware what is going on in his school, the teachers are on the level with the students, and as far as safety is concerned, it is like a zoo. There are more suspensions/dententions going on than learning. Children are unnecessarily stressed, Parents try to be involved to no avail due to lack of admin cooperation. I am currently trying to find a school that has more student encouragement to learn and not discouragement. Parents, don't let your child attend this school if you don't want them to give up on education!
