Last year was a difficult year for my child, as well as us as parents. I felt the teacher did not assist us as caring parents trying to help him. This year, I do not see much of a change. With some children it takes both the teachers and parents to motivate the child...it is not easy coming from only one end. I do not feel there are enough parent teacher involvement and or communication. For seven and 1/2 hours a day, we release our children in the hands of their teachers. If we as parents do not know of any issues no matter how insignificant the teacher may fell it is than we can not help our children. There should be some way of communicating with the parents on at least a weekly basis and not waiting for progress reports/report cards to show us how they are progressing.
this is one of the best schools I've seen. I was going to enroll my child in private school. We saw that oakville was as good or even better! A lot of parents get involved.
I have a daughter who attends Oakville Elementary and loves it. She will be in 1st grade this year and as of the end of K she was reading and doing math on a mid-year 1st grade leavel.
I have 2 kids at Oakville - 1st and 4th grades. They have been getting an excellent education and I am impressed with the progress they have made. Having also served on the budget committee, I know how little the administration has to work with and how much they are doing with it. This is a school that really seems to care about its students. I would like to see a foreign language offered, but again this is a budget issue at the County / School Board level and out of the control of the school itself.
My son stuggled last year and the teacher was in no way helpful nor was the assistant principal. We really had a difficult time. This year we have a wonderful teacher. The principal is great if you get her involved. Not enough extracurricular activities. No foreign language. We moved here last year and have been dissapointed from what we came from.
My son is 4 and I was very worried about my baby leaving me half the day but everyone at Oakville was great and I feel my son is in good hands. The staff I have spoken with have all been very friendly and understanding with all my concerns and questions.
I'm not a parent but I went to Oakville for 2 years. I loved my 1st grade teacher. She has been, by far the best teacher I've ever had. I'm now going into my freshmen year of high school. I've grown a lot and I think it all started when I started kindergarten in Oakville. This is a great school and when I left for Piney Point I truly missed all of my friends and the teachers!
