Mount Airy Christian Academy is great school with a community that cares about the family as a whole. My family has been there for three years and they have been good years for our kids not only academically, but socially as well. Parents are encouraged to be involved and your concerns are heard. We are also encouraged to approach the school's leadership with any issues we might have. It's a very welcoming school. I like the discipline as well.
Don't be turned off by a few dramatic parents. this school is a loving and encouraging environment. the academics are top notch.
This school is the worst thing to exist on earth. Rules range from no nicknames for your friends (Dave must be known as DaVID) to no earrings longer than 1inch, no black nail polish, no wearing too much blush, no sitting at the same table with the same people for a few days in a row...(everyone is equal!!!), you have to sing whether you like it or not. Really judgemental and not welcoming to new students, the kids and teachers alike. You can get expelled because another student accuses you of something against a really bad rule, and they wont even look into it. The counselor likes to take the young boys home, everyone in this school needs to go to a REAL church.... I'd rather have my children go to public school in DC than here, my kids are way worse off than when they entered. I did not want this. They will hide all this to the parents because hey, they want their money, so don't be fooled by the fancy looking presentation and charisma of the staff.
We chose MACA b/c my child said they wanted to b/c MACA talks about God and her school (public) does not. She has been friends with MACA students and heard. We have another child that has special needs, they assisted us in helping them succeed. Small class sizes and every teacher my kids have had, go above and beyond our expectations to teach and love on our kids. I love seeing my children grow spiritually and to be held accountable for their actions so they can grow up to be spiritually mature. The academics are geared towards life long skills and not "teaching to the test". I can speak on the cafeteria issue because one of my children had to sit at the table but that was due to them talking when they should have been. They can't talk for the 1st 5 min to get settled, then the lights on and then the last 5 min the lights go off to finish and get ready to leave. My children know that if they are talking they will be held accountable, as they should. I appreciate that the school holds to the biblical standard and not the world view of educating. I know graduates and that speaks volumes to see examples of MACA's mission and to see the quality my children will receive.
I have had children at MACA since 2007. I have worked in the education field for the last 12 years so I feel qualified to say that MACA provides not only the best education in the area but challenges my children academically, socially and most important spiritually. What is missing at most schools but evident at MACA is the high standard they hold for ALL students. When you raise the bar children will usually rise to meet it. One of my children struggled academically when she first began school . Because of the dedicated teachers who pushed her, she is an honor roll student who now loves coming school every day. Another reason we chose MACA was the dedication and love of the teachers for their students. The teachers hug my children, they send them encouraging notes. I too have very well-behaved children and I also know they aren't perfect and are as prone to misbehaving as any other child. I also have confidence that if my child wasn't meeting the expecation of the teacher or school that appropriate consequences would be follow. My family feels very fortunate to be able to send our kid to MACA. We have been blessed in many ways by the faculty and staff.
I wish I would have know how strict this school was when we where looking, We have very well behaved children that do not need to have a punishment table at lunch, No talking at all, lights out while you eat your lunch, or you are sent to the punishment table. Your child is not allowed to approach the teachers desk. Your child is fear of getting in trouble. None of this is in the parent hand book, There are so many reason why this school is stuck in the 50's with there punishment style of teaching. The only thing missing is the paddle. Not what i think jesus would have wanted to keep our children loving and learning about God.
My children have not been going to MACA for very long. I have noticed a lot of favoritism towards certain students. It can make a newer student not feel very welcomed. Every school has some issues but for a Christian school I feel like MACA should try to treat each student with more respect. But I continue to send my children here because they are getting an excellent education not only in the academics but as well as spiritually.
I believe the Christian Education was great, though I also believe Christitanity is about love and grace and I feel it lacks this from some of the faculty. There is a bit of nepotism going on as well as favortism amongst church member families. I also believe that it can be very strict in areas that shouldn't be so strict. Very traditional style of teaching even from Kindergarten, though academically challenging. Little ones need to move around much more than they are allowed.
MACA has been my school of choice for my three children for the last 15 years. The qualified teachers and loving staff have helped my children grow spiritually, socially, and academically.
We have had nothing but a fantastic experience at MACA. Our kids have attended since Kindergarten and is in 2nd and 5th grade respectively. The education at MACA is balanced between academic excellence, spiritual maturity and fostering a healthy body. Go MACA!
My children have ben going here since kindergarden and love to go to school. Need I say more.
