I recommend- MELROSE YMCA FAMILY DAYCARE IN STONEHAM.
They offer preschool and before and afterschool programs while your child is in elementary school (that is open during vacation weeks, certain holidays and snow days!!)
The lead preschool teacher is well educated and organized. They provide 2 or more teachers per class. The class size is around 10. They have a good playground, they go for walks and sometimes play at the nearby playground as well, they have field trips- to the fire station, etc, the PTO schedules visits by the aquarium. In addition to the fun things the kids gets to do they work on math, social studies, and reading skills, etc. I did not realize how much my son (who is my oldest) had learn while in preschool that is advance to entry level in kindergarten. I just thought kids this age was suppose to know these things. IE- count to 100, simple adding skills, recognizes letters and their sounds, can read simple words, etc. My son knows or recognizes many of the items expected of him prior entering kindergarten. He also knows many of the items the kindergarten readiness letter notes they will introduce to the students. After my tours with all the elementary schools I have come to greatly appreciate the Melrose (in Stoneham) YMCA family daycare preschool program. I highly recommend their program. (PS- The program directors are great too. It's off Franklin near Washington Ave.
