Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The teachers are great. The building is dilapidated. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Very distracting. Lacks technology. Cutting elective courses to concentrate on the core subjects due to budget constraints. Not enough AP classes. But, a great sports school. Many sports scholarships generated here.

I would give MHS 4 stars, but to balance out that other impulsive one-star, I chose 5. Bashing the school simply for one disappointing special education experience is undeserved. That said, the extracurriculars are fantastic here, and as a student-athlete, I really appreciate it. Though we have only ~1400 students, we manage to maintain a plethora of perennially competitive and *free* sports teams. Personally, I haven't witnessed any outward violence during school to criticize safety and discipline. Teacher quality is fantastic - a real testament to the dedication and teamwork between the department chairs and the teaching staff. However, principal leadership has been lackluster, as the third principal will be taking over in 4 years. Additionally, the test scores are consistently above Massachusetts and national averages. This means that all levels of students at MHS are more academically capable, not just the tops, who always graduate to the nation's top universities.

The special ed program appears to be great on the outside. But from a parent whose child was pushed through the system, it's not.
