Saltonstall is a innovative, multiple intelligence based k-8 school in a diverse and culturally rich community. The scool program is multi age classroom, extended day and extended year. The school has experienced growing pains with its recent expansion to 8th grade but the ship appears to be righting with committed leadership and parental involvement. The majority of hte teachers are very committed and shared leadership with the administration is fostered whenever possible.

The Saltonstall school in Salem, MA is nice but leaves a lot to be desired acedemically and socially. This school is going through some major transitions this year. With a new principal on board and the relocation of the students/staffl for the upcoming school year due to major renovations. Getting any type of feedback from my childs teachers regarding tests, homework and basic class issues is atroshish! The lack of teacher / parent communication is a very big concern. It's tough to establish relationships at this school because most of the parents that volunteer are a tight group that stay to themselves. It's nice to see the groups of friendships but sometimes you may feel like you are the outside looking in. I do not feel like my child is obtaining the best education at this school and we are considering leaving. I do hope this insight helps.

I love the Saltonstall school for a number of reasons. Our extended day, extended year, multi-age classroom program focuses on the Multiple Intelligences Theory for instructional purposes. This program helps to determine each of our students best learning processes and helps them to apply those processes to their individual learning styles. More importantly, Saltonstall is committed not only to the students, but to the entire community. Our students are taught from day 1 the importance of teamwork, effort, caring and responsibility, which we refer to as "Saltonstall Pride". They are encouraged to give of themselves for betterment of others and the entire community.

I have been a parent of Saltonstall for 8 years. I have three children that currently attend this school. As each of my children are unique in their own way they have been able to demonstrate what they learn in various ways due to the multiple intelligences way of teaching. The staff are exceptional. They instill a love of learning, a passion for being involved in your community, and the respect and understanding of the importance of diversity, that each child has their own voice and as a team anything is possible. I could go on and on. This school not only has a phenomenal staff, they also encourage and appreciate parent involvement. Every Friday you will find between 30-40 parents and community volunteers at the school to run various Friday Clubs. It is truly a special place to be!

My daughter is able to rely on teachers, paras and friends to see her through the day. She loves school and that she gets to learn by using multiple intelligences. I love the extended day, extended year so that my child is learning during the critical years of her life.

We had a foster child at Saltonstall, and the faculty and staff were so supportive of him and us as a family. The school uses an alternative approach to learning that is very effective, and the environment of the school is friendly, kind, and pleasant.

My children have been at Salts for 9 years. The quality of the teachers is incredible. They are dedicated, hard working and always work on their own time to help the kids. The community is supportive and the kids learn how to get along as well as academics. All in all, I wish that there were more stars to use to rate this school!

I am the parent of a kindergartner new to Saltonstall. In the 5 months we have been involved with this school, we couldn't be more pleased. Classes are integrated so that kids who are succeeding are paired with older children to improve their skills, and children who are struggling get extra support. The combined grades begin in 1-2, but the kindergartners are exposed to a lot of activities with the older children. There is ART EVERYWHERE and creative expression is a big deal in this school. We initially chose this school because it had the highest overall rating on Greatschools, and now we know why. The multiple intelligences approach highlights each child's area of strength. The staff, and the principal are GREAT.

We have had two children attend Saltonstall over the past seven years and have always been impressed by the commitment of the teachers. They are caring adn committed to helping the students succeed. Saltostall has a unique 11 month school calender - an amazing feature - I think it helps students retain more information over the summer and allows for an easy transition back to school in the fall.

Although some Government test scores are off it is due to diversity. This is one of the best Schools there are Public or Private. They truly strive to find ways for every child to learn and grow. Recently Salts went K-8. We parents are so very excited by this development. I also love the fact that they encourage parents to volunteer around the school. Salts is a truly innovative school!

My husband and I have found Saltonstall to be a wonderful, nurturing and overall academically challenging environment. The staff have unbelievable dedication and the parental involvement is like nothing I have heard of. The year round schedule really keeps the students on top of their game as they don't loose the basic skills over entended times off. The multiple intelligences approach to education makes every child realize they can be successful educationally, which is such an important message to communicate to new students! We have been very pleased with the preparation afforded for standardized tests, yet feel they haven't had to sacrifice the unique flavor of the school's educational goals, to be successful at this. We wanted a good, public, urban education for our kids, and feel we have made an excellent choice!
