My son graduated from the Phoenix in 2012 and very was well equipped to deal with all facets of high school: curriculum, students & teachers. We have been thrilled with the broad and diverse education afforded by The Phoenix School, which includes life skills, community service, and mentoring as well as academics. They integrate creativity, curiosity and collaboration into their curriculum and emphasize analysis and critical thinking rather than regurgitating of facts on a test. My daughter will graduate from Phoenix next year, and although we will no longer have a student here - we will always be a Phoenix School family.

This is what I love about The Phoenix School- 1- The teachers have multiple degrees and years of experience. The teachers really know my child's learning style and personality and help them become the amazing individuals they were meant to be. 2-The school is structured in a way that inspires children to learn, they are eager for input and invested in learning. The teachers are able to creatively engage children and give them independence and responsibility to make choices. This has empowered my kids to take their education to whole different level. Its "cool" to be smart at Phoenix! 3- Teachers accommodate my gifted child to advance while staying within her peer group. They also accommodate my other child's challenges by offering choices and empowering her to take responsibility for her education. 4- It's the only school that is really successful with global learning, they Skype with classrooms around the world and learn about different cultures. It's amazing! 5- All the graduates have a solid foundation to take into high school and they all transition well into a variety of competitive high schools on the North Shore and in Greater Boston. I'm in love with this school!

A terrific school. My grandson and granddaughter both attend the Phoenix and I can not say enough for the open learning experience.

The Phoenix School is truly a gem. A unique place where students of all ages learn 21st century skills making them tomorrow's leaders.

The Phoenix School provides a unique and refreshing learning environment for our children. The open classroom format and commitment to encouraging students to become independent thinkers and responsible older partners to the younger students is a wonderful experience for both students and their families.

Our son started at the Phoenix School in 2004 and we are amazed at his development. He is spirited and independent, so learning to work in concert with others was as important to us as traditional academics. We didn't want him labelled as a 'troublemaker' and put in a corner because of his high energy level and not-yet developed social skills. We wanted a place that would grow his intellect, his ability to work in groups (like the real world requires!) and his sense of personal accountability. The many community service activities also teaches him how important and rewarding it is to make a difference in the lives of others. Today he is a self-confident six-year old learning HOW to LEARN--not being forced to memorize a set of facts out of context--eventually snuffing out the innate love of learning. We are delighted to be a part of the Phoenix School family.

Our experience with this school has been terrific. My son's self confidence and independance are building everyday. This is the perfect school for a child who is more interested in learning than cliques or the latest television idol. My child can be a child, while getting academically challenged at his level. The 'learning in the world' concept is wonderful. Last week my son asked me if I would take him to the Boston Symphony, as they had just returned from one of their trips there. That is something to note in a a parent's journal! This is not a school for a passive parent. This is definately a place for parents that are very involved with their child's education and who are willing to be part of the school. This school has given us the opportunity to really be involved in our son's education. Bottom line- Unique is good!

Not only do I work at the school, I am also an alum and feel very strongly about school s ability to educate children to become world thinkers. This is an education of the whole where students can explore the arts, learn spanish from Kindergarten, be a mentor to the younger student body and be a younger student body without feeling small. One of the best things about the Phoenix School is the Adventures into the World program. This is a program where 6-7-8 graders go on a travel study trip. Trips have included such place as the Virgin Islands, Italy, the Netherlands, Mexico and the Everglades. Students record their experiences about the trip in the form of poetry, watercolor and observational writing. For a bright, out-of-the-box thinker, this school is worth a visit!

Very open-minded. Excellent preparation for real life but very little preparation for the high school cirriculum.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
