I love Tyler Elementary. I have had 2 kids already through the school and one almost finished. We have had wonderful supportive teachers who will do anything to help a child that truely wants to learn. Parents have to step up and pay attention to their children because it is their job to help with homework and know how their children are doing in the class. A teacher can tell the child to do the homework but they can not force them to do or learn it - the child needs a parents support to suceed. I feel Tyler teachers will work with parents to provide an excellent education for your child.

Tyler is a great school and so are many of the teachers! However being a parent and getting involved in the PTO is one thing. I found myself extremely uncomfortable at a few meeting. Almost as though they already had a click going reminded me a little bit of high school. One of my many of reasons for wanting to go was about my daughter being bullied and what I could do about it. Coming to find out two of the 3 bullies parents where in the PTO! It s not like I could talk to the principal because she herself was part of the PTO click . How does a parent compete with that? I m so glad our district is school of choice! It s a shame for the teachers they are AMAZING!

Tyler Elementary was (and, I believe, still is) the only elementary school in Van Buren Township with a Gifted and Talented program.

This is my daughter's third year at this school. She has been there since Kindergarten. She loves Mrs. Hinks, her kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Hinks is an outstanding kindergarten teacher. She provided the children with a lot of extra activities at their own level. The class took a lot of field trips. My daughter can not wait to get back to school and begin second grade. There really isn't any opportunity for working parents to get involved in the PTO, however. The PTO president does not appear to be very warm and open to changing how her meetings are held during the morning. I would love to get involved in PTO, but I haven't. I attended one PTO meeting and felt extremely out of place. I wish this would change because Tyler does have a lot to offer.

This school, its principal, and staff, are not prepared to handle emergency situations regarding the welfare and safety of children with medical conditions. Moreover, when these situations occur, there is little remorse or proper action taken to remedy the careless acts, and in my experience, poor administrative action and documentation.

We have three children at Tyler and have been here for two years now. Our children are school of choice children. We decided on Tyler after careful consideration and review of other schools in the area. We made the best decision ever. We love the teachers, the principal and the staff. Our children are very happy in here. Our oldest was fighting us about going to school (in first grade at our old school, not normal) but loves going to school here. Our kids are doing great. Our PTO is fantastic and Mrs. Voigt, the principal is outstanding. She is remarkable. She has a way with the students that is beyond impressive. It feels good to see our children excited about learning. J. Stewart

The PTO has worked hard, and in return we are the proud new owners of a computer lab, and many other upgrades around the school. Mrs. Voigt and the staff at Tyler are what keeps this school going. They care about each and every student as if they were their own.
