I have lived in Byron for 3 years and I really like the elementary school my oldest is starting middle school this fall. Yes their are a couple of the staff that need to be replaced but you can get that at any school you go to. I really like Byron Elementary and I don't see me having a problem with the middle school. My kids have improved so much since going to Byron Elementary. I really like the school.

Most of the school staff and teachers need to be replaced. The school doesn't give you the feeling that they want to help your child, but rather push them through because they are too lazy to help. The special education program is a joke and a wast of tax payers money. They do have a few good teachers and staff that gives the parents hope for improvement. The community is a good and pull together when someone needs help. We pulled 2 of our 3 children out of Byron Schools to home school, and are considering taking out our senior as well. The tuition is worth knowing they are getting a good education and a positive working environment.

This school needs a lot of improvement beginning with the principal to the PTA. Very poor school in parent communication areas. The special Ed dept is lacking in staff areas that show an improvement in the students that are involved in it. We are considering taking our child to another school district. They don't like when parents get involved if they have an opposing position

This school is so great! The special education is the best I have seen in a really long time. If your child is able to get out of special education they will get them out unlike many other schools. Also the curriculum is great and the teachers are so caring and wonderful. I have never been so pleased with a school like I am with this one.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
