My experience in this school system with 3 kids going through has been that they are all about sports, The SkyPort website Parent / Student access is a great theory if teachers would keep up with it. Too much emphasis was put on the ipads without forethought of how students would really use them.
This was my daughter's first year at Charlotte High School. Overall, it has been an outstanding experience for my daughter. She was able to be involved in many different extra curricular activities. She truly enjoyed her teachers. In addition, I enjoyed being involved in my student's education. Her English 9 teacher (Brown) invited me on several occasions to participate in activities that were going on in the classroom. Finally, the CPAC offers many different events and performers. I have enjoyed going to the concerts and plays, especially 'Arsenic and Old Lace'. This is a top-notch school. It has made my daughter's freshmen year a positve experience.
I'm a part of this school system right about now. The teachers are not easy to communicate with. Kids don't learn their subjects as they should. Drugs have a huge influence on our lives. Whether we do them or not, you will always hear about them and they will be a part of your life. Kids will judge you if you don't do things right. Its either your loved or hated. Not too many 'in betweens' But overall, Its not a terrible school. You have the good times, and bad times. In the end they prepare you for the real thing; life.
Charlotte High school is unique and focused on mainly sports. Charlotte developed the ZAP policy so every student turns in every assignment, if they do not they then report to ZAP Lab, if the student does not attend they are to receive a Saturday school, which is not always forced. This school also has a high percentage of problems including, alcohol, drugs, and pregnancy. But, it is also found in the Middle school. The sports are highly praised, without them we would not be heard of.The music program is amazing, yet unapretiated. Dr. Gary T. Sullivan has excelled with his teaching. The marching band received all I's at a district festival. While during concert season The Jazz Ensamble and the Symphony band won 1st place in their divisions while the Concert band received 2nd place in their divisions. If your student is musically/athletically inclined Charlotte is the place for them.=D
Safety and discipline here are quite poor in fact. There's wide spread drug and alcohol use, not only on campus, but at extracurricular functions as well. Although there's tons of opportunities to excel because Charlotte IS a small town, the high school can only be what your student makes of it.
Safety and discipline poor. Wide spread drug and alcohol use on campus and at extracurricular functions. Most recently - ski trip issues for alcohol use. Administration has lack of control. Middle school is even worse.
this school is great good teachers and service plus it is very clean
This school has a high regard for music and has not only put its efforts in teaching but it's finances as well. On the academic side, it needs work. I agree the set up allows for students to be comfortable and not want to excel. This school alone is not great for college prep. Teachers speak of communication, however it is difficult for you to communicate with them and they are not strong on accountability, for themselves or for the students. This is a statement of average, a few great, above great teachers are Zonyke, Borsheim, C. Kaiser, Moran and Toth.
Charlotte High School is a great school. The teachers get it done, while it is up to the students to get their work done on time. The sports in this town do get out of hand but not as much as others think. I went through this school and found it to be a fantastic school for both education and athletics.
This school is mainly focused on one subject; sports. I find that there is far too much emphasis on sports in this community and not nearly enough on fine arts. Gary t. Sullivan, a miraculous musician and teacher works very hard at developing the musical abilities of his students. Due to his efforts, charlotte has a reputation of a prestigious band program. However, due to the lack of support and poor middle school musical education, their reputation is slipping. Why? I believe that this is due to the sports oriented nature of this school system. Artistic talents are far more amazing than the ability to throw a ball around and tackle others in an 'organized' manner. If something is not done soon, there will no longer be an artistic department in these schools.
My 2 children went through the Charlotte Public School system.I feel the high school curriculum does not prepare the students for college. There are not enough AP classes offered and prepared teachers to teach them. The foreign language classes are inadequate with not enough languages offered. We coached our children to make the most of the situation and go the extra mile in order to get into a decent university. The high school counselors do not help the students as they should. It seems only the trouble maker students are addressed. Information is not at a premium for scholarship opportunities. There is too much emphasis on the alternative ed students. There is way too much emphasis on sports and this is sad because for most students, the sports end after high school. Education is needed and it is lacking and it seems as though the parents don't care.
This is a great oppertunity for thoes who want a little more in their education. We offer many Extra Curricular activities and oppertunities for involvment in your school. Band and Choir are great 6 of 7 of my kids have gone throught he programs for all four years of their HS years. They said it was great!
Charlotte is just like its town: old, hillbilly-like, and just a small town culture. The school runs on a four class schedule that goes by semester, unlike any other high schools scheduling. While they think this helps the students, this actually allows them to become more lazy only having four classes with homework if that. The diversity among the students is unnoticed, because there just about isnt any, both racially and mentally.
