I had two students in the pre-K Grow Up Great Program sponsored by PNC Bank, and I must say that the program is excellent. I is absolutely one of the best academic experiences that your 4 or 5 year old can be exposed to. The twins left pre-K well equipped to tackle the challenges of Kindergarden. They learned social skills, math skills, writing skills, music skills, and art skills. Not to mention that the students go on amazing field trips. They have a partnership with the Detroit Music Hall, and the children are exposed to wonderful cultural experiences. The teaching staff is dedicated, collaborative, and kind. They work with parents to give the student one of the greatest academic experiences that the city of Detroit has to offer.

Emerson School has a staff who cares. we work as a team and letting our parents know that they are a part of our team. School is a second home to our students. they are not only getting the best education, but learning how to love yourself and others. set your goals and give it your very best. always consider your consequences before you start your actions. life should not only be good to you, but good for you. our students are our future and we contribute to that future through our students.

The school has worked extremely hard to give all the students here a leg up. They have brought in amazing resources including a strong City Year team - 10 corps members who work to tutor, mentor, and coach students.

Emerson is one of the few schools in Detroit really committed to learning. It is partnered with Communities in Schools, Diploma's now, and City Year to provide its students with as much support (in their neighborhood and the classroom) as possible to guarantee their success.

The level of commitment that is shown to the students, even though resources may not be the best, is above ordinary. To make a long story short, the people there really care.

Good teachers are overwhelmed with too many students. This is the problem with Detroit Public schools not that of Emerson. If there are too many unruly students, than that should be first addressed in the home. I have no problem with the teachers. However, I have a problem with parents who complain about the school, but fail to volunteer in the school clean up day, parent teacher conference or volunteer.

I use to attend emerson and it was excellent thats when DPS provided sewing, cooking, shop, gym every day. What a drastic mistake when the special classes were taken out of these schools the kids are restless and becoming more and more dangerous. emerson has went down and its hard to believe, the neighborhood is still nice, you would think by the way the children act they are teaching themselves totally and are running the school as far as behavior. I've seen some of these children talk back to other parents like they were grown, and again were just talking about little children.

Too many unruly children, not enough teachers who care. A perfect example of exactly what's wrong with Detroit Public Schools.
