Small class sizes offer lots of one-on-one attention between students and teachers. Everyone who is at the school, be it administration, parents or students, are there because they want to be, and because they want the very best for the children of St.John's. The dedication of everyone involved in that school is amazing, and it is the hard work of EVERYONE that makes it thrive.

I have three children. My oldest now attends OU, but because of the outstanding school program and caring teaching staff she graduated Magna Cum Laude at her High School. My son will be a senior @ LHN and he is doing great. My youngest is still @ St. John's. The curriculum is outstanding and has prepared them very well for High School and beyond. I would highly recommend this school.

An outstanding school! From Preschool through 8th Grade, all children are taught in a loving Christian environment. High standards are set for academics and the children achieve those standards and higher. Additionally, the school takes the MEAP test solely to see how it compares to the other schools in Macomb County. St. John Lutheran School always has the highest scores. Highly recommend!

We're very pleased with St. John. We have two children and both are very comfortable with the other students and staff members. Our children have not reached the middle school grades yet, but I can say that the staff in the early learning grades is kind, highly skilled and very passionate about their ministry. We're very glad we chose St. John.

Anyone who wants their child to get a great education with a Christian Foundation should go here. I had 2 children that went to this school and I wish that they could have stayed. We moved out of state and miss it very much. Nothing compares to the students, teachers or the parents. The students are bright, the teachers are amazing and the parents are caring.

Both of my sons attended St. John. There is no comparison, we would highly recommend it to anyone who wants their child to be in a school with highly qualified and very caring teachers. The curriculum was outstanding and prepared them very well for high school. The family atmosphere is a blessing for students, parent, and staff alike. The Christian atmosphere is evident to all. If you live nearby, you need to seriously consider this school.

This school is fantastic! My daughter thrives in this Christian atmosphere. She loves her teachers and feels so special when she is invovled in after school program. Everyone at the school knows her and shows her love of Jesus. I feel confident in her positive environment each week. I know when it comes time, my son also will do well at St. John. What a priviledge it is to be a part of this family!

We have 3 children that go to St. John. The teaching staff is outstanding. They show a personal interest in each child. They are taught a higher moral standard not only through words but by their actions. Our children are excited to learn about Jesus and his love for us. We are proud when we hear our children evangelize to their friends. This validates our decision in sending our children to St. John. Our children are very proud of there school and show a great enthusiasm for learning!

My daughter attended St. John and we were very happy and satisified with the school. She was more than ready for high school and really enjoyed St. John. Teachers are excellent and concern for students is wonderful. School is small and very much like a family. We had previously attended a public school and the difference between the two cannot be compared. I would highly recommend this school.

My son is currently enrolled in the four year preschool at St. John Lutheran. We were very happy with our child at Immanuel Lutheran in Macomb Twp, but we moved. After much research we were hopeful about the Christian focus here. We were told that our son, who already knew much of what was being taught, would be catered to and given work to keep him devleoping at his level. Now we've come to the half way point and I don't see a lot of improvement in my son's academics. He enjoys the school, but often complains about being bored. We've contimplated keeping him at the school for another year or two, but I'm not impressed by what I see in the teachers in the hallway or the students I encounter. Good school, but nothing amazing. They really good be so much better than they are.

Very disappointed in this school. Our children have been enrolled here for 9 years. Academics are satisfactory, not outstanding. PK-4th grade has some excellent teachers. Upper grades does not model relevant Christian behavior to this age group, with the exception of the new 7th grade teacher. Administration lacks initiative in addressing parental concerns. Principal does not show interest in preparing students for Christian living, focus is strictly on academic appearances and statistics, and has not earned the respect the upper grade students at all. Sports program is lacking although has a few very committed parent coaches. Athletic director is unqualified, and shows only minimal interest. The school prefers to focus its resources on 'music' programs, which are outstanding but archaic. PTL group is amazing. Wonderful Christian students and families. Computer program almost non existant. Non-music students are 'dumped' into a forced reading program without alternative offerings. School is wasting its potential

Overall St. John is a pretty good school. If I needed to make a pro and con list pros would be the student teacher ratio, the quantity students in the student body, quality of teaching, music program, and disipline.Test scores are high at this school and teachers challenge the students. The cons in this list would be the athletic program(coaches are parent volenteers and little effort is made by the athletic director to improve the morale of the players and amount of wins of a team. Parent involvement is also a con, many of the parents step back and don't speek their mind or help improve the school. The computer program is another thing that needs improving. It is in the process of being impoved but students are still mostly doing basic typing every week even in 8th grade.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
