This school is Grand Rapids' best kept secret. The teachers and administration are outstanding! The faculty truly try to discover each student's individual talents and capitalize on those talents. The focus is on learning, building self-esteem and fostering an acceptance of each other. Here are some stories to support this critique... A student had transferred into the middle school. The principal frequently asked the student to come into her office to see how she was adjusting. The principal's bookshelf contains motivational books. It was the second week of school. A student was new to the building and was having difficulty finding her 1st hour class. Rather than disciplining the child for being late to class, the principal said, 'Are you having trouble finding your class, sweetie?' 'Here, let me help you' as she escorted the child to class. Students are encouraged to give back to the community. Out of words...many more stories.
