Juat wanted to share that the info about the asssitant principal is no longer true (even if it was then). The new leadership team of Mrs. Gonzalez and Mr. Moreno are solid and all about kids and success of the school Very safe and nurturing environment for learning. Involved community member.
My son attended East as a 'schools of choice' student. His experience there was excellent. Teachers that he had were interesting to learn from and interested in his education. The environment is peaceful and orderly to which I can credit the principal and her assistants. Parental invlolvement could be better.
Our son is completing the 6th grade at East this year. He has special needs, so we have almost constant contact with teachers and staff. We've had an excellent experience. We look forward to our youngest son (who is in 1st grade at View) attending East as well.
My daughter is now in high school. Her experiences at East Intermediate was excellent. Some of these teachers have since retired, but most are still there. East Intermediate is home to Michigan's Teacher of the Year for 2003-2004. He is top-notch and still one of our daughter's most inspirational teachers. He taught her much more than academics. He (and others in the school) advocate taking responsibility for oneself, making every day count, being a lifelong learner, and helping others as a basic condition of a learning community. East also has a unique integrated arts program that encourages students to learn content area subjects through the arts. The building is full of student artwork related to their studies. The staff at East try hard to provide a positive transitional experience between the elementary school and middle school. Sports opportunities for girls could be better.
Very sad school, it really needs improvement! Teachers saying they never ever want to see a students face ever again. The Assistant Principal yelling at students. It certainly does not show a very good example of behavior. Shame on them, it makes you wonder if there are any adults running the school. The fact that you must give the school notice when you want to visit, makes me believe they must have something to hide.
