I have two boys who have gone here. The first graduated, went to college, and has started his career. SHS prepared him for success at MSU. He made some lifelong friends. And his former teachers were very engaged and still ask about him. My youngest son goes there now. His experience is very good as well. Both were part of the Global Education program. GE is a program that will challenge. It is wonderful to have an academic program which allows students to strive for excellence. The teachers are among the best. It allows for extramural study & interscholastic competition. Btw, SHS "Globies" are an elite team at Mid American Model United Nations, placing first or second, 17 years in a row and still counting! At SHS there are a lot of opportunities to participate in extra curricular activitie, atheletics, arts, social, and academic. In my familiy's experience SHS is the by far the best school my boys attended in the Livonia Public Schools. The others were Buchanan, Riley, and Holmes, where the teachers were good, however, the administration at those schools were not the caliber of Principals Gibbons and Archibald. They are among the finest I have met, anywhere.

Stevenson is a fantastic school with great opportunities for the students to learn real world applications. Big is not always bad. In fact, the learning experience at Stevenson is second to none. I attribute a lot of my professional success to the principles I learned while attending Stevenson.

My child arrived her ninth grade year and she has learn an enormous amount of information. She has expressed to me some racial issue (SHEs BLACK). I tell her that she belongs just as much as the next person, ignorance cannot be stopped with some people. She has 3.0 gpa and she has had some wonderful teachers. Mrs Clark rocks! She is a senior now and her good teachers really helped her a lot

I have a 10th grade student at Stevenson. All through her elementary years I have heard how fortunate she is to be able to attend Stevenson. She is merely a number there. If you are not a major trouble maker or an athlete you are ignored. The staff seems to think they are extra special because they teach at Stevenson and that should be enough. No extra effort needed. So very disappointed so far.

I am alumni of Stevenson High School and I have on child in and another next year. I have always been proud to say I graduated from Stevenson. Raising my family in Livonia where I grew up and went to school was my main concern. I feel Stevenson gave me all the tools I needed in life. My entire family graduated from Stevenson and some neices and nephews. Livonia is a great place to raise your family and attend schools where the teaching staff is really there for the student.

I am a Livonia Stevenson graduate and it makes me sick to see negative reviews about Stevenson. I understand some reviews and their concern that if you are not a part of athletics or student government then you are disregarded, because I'd have to agree to an extent. However, Stevenson offered so many opportunities to get involved in some way you'd have to be completely anti-social to not want to participate. Diversity? Livonia is the whitest city in America. I am currently tutoring near the nations capitol and yes, those schools are a big culture shock- completely different than Livonia schools. But, I can't help but feeling spoiled, or that I took Livonia's education and facilities for granted. Come to the school I tutor at, where they would love to have the 7 computer labs & the 4 laptops carts we have, they don't have a SINGLE computer lab. You're lucky.

My step son has graduated from Stevenson and my daughter is now attending it. I feel it is a fantastic school. As with anything you get what out of it what you put into it. They have plenty of extracurricular activitys for everyone to enjoy if they want. My daughter is recieving a great education and valuable life lessons. I attend all conferances and have meet with all of her teachers they are all caring dedacated teachers. Even when she had a problem, I was able to email her teacher to try to solve the problem. Her teacher emailed me right back at 8:30 at night . That just proved to me that these teachers do care and work all day and night for our kids!

Stevenson high school is one of the worst high schools I was a student there and actually had to transfer out my senior year because it was so bad there I would not reccomend it for any child.

Stevenson is a wonderful school with attentive teachers who really care about the success of their students. My teachers took time to talk to me, not just about their classes, but about my hopes and goals and how to achieve them. I received a great education at Stevenson and actually enjoyed school while there.

I am alumni of this school and feel that going there was one of the best experiences of my life. I was fully prepared for college and the real world thereafter. The Arts programs were excellent in my view, all you need do was participate. I only wish my daughter had had the opportunity to attend Stevenson but our move out of state precluded that. It was a great school.

I have yet to understand where all this negativity is coming from. I think your high school experience is what you make it. For those of you who have commented on what a bad experience you have had there, I believe it is because of the way you have chosen to live your high school years. Of course athletics are always going to be superior to the arts. I was never an athlete, but fully excelled in the arts. Even at Stevenson where the fine arts are not held in high regard. I had major support from faculty as well as students who were athletes. I went on to become very successful in attaining a vocal preformance degree. I had many friends and many good relationships with teachers at SHS. I couldnt disagree more with the negative comments posted here. You find happiness and support when you seek it.

I moved to this district because of the reputation of the schools. I am disappointed. If you are at the top of your class then you will do well, but that is not teaching. It is very easy to fall between the cracks and most often you are overlooked because they brush it off to laziness. The school directs all of their funding towards athletics, overlooking the arts. Do they have winning teams? Few. The basketball program and coaching staff is the worst, although the Director will tell you they are second to none. The best thing about the season is that it's almost over. Dishearteneing as a parent to see your child loose a passion due to poor leadership. The players have walked away with nothing and most will probably never play again. The Director claims to have never heard such comments before, the policy is not open door.

I am an alumni of Stevenson and am in the middle of my senior year at a university. I had a good experience at Stevenson, I am sorry to hear that some people did not. I can say that the education I recieved in the classroom and through extracuricular activities well prepared me for success in college. The skills I learned at Stevenson allowed me to take on many leadership roles on campus. As for diversity, there is not a whole lot there. However, Livonia is 97% white so you cannot fault the school for the lack of diversity. It should be pointed out that there is a program in the school, Global Education, that places a huge emphasis on diversity. Each card marking students are required to participate in an cultural or ethnic event outside of school. The diversity education is present there. I had a wonderful experice at SHS!

I am a past student of Stevenson and I had an amazing experience. I had teachers who cared about me and pushed me to excel. I felt like I had quality relationships with my teachers and the rest of the faculty. I even continue to keep in contact with them. Some of the teachers that I had are the best I've ever had, including college professors. I made great friends too. High School is in a large part what you make it yourself. The negative attitudes on this page are most likely from pessimistic people. A good high school experience is just as much the student's job to build as it is the teachers'.

The worst school experience ever. If your child needs extra support don't expect to get it from this school. They would rather push students that require support right out the door.

I'm not a parent, but a student of SHS, and I am in my senior year. SHS may seem like a fancy schmancy school and we have nice test scores, but our school is pathetic. If we have so many teachers, then why are the majority of my classes with 32+ students, that is not an education! Our school spent a million dollars on a new athletic complex, but we are laying off teachers left and right! The school treats you as if you are a nobody if you are not on a sports' team or student government. Put this stuff in your profile. Don't send your kids to SHS, they'll just end up another number.

First of all, the lack of diversity at Livonia Stevenson may be present, however, how much can you really ask when Livonia, MI was the 'whitest city in America' according to the 2000 census (there are articles on this that I care not to reference at the moment). Should a school be blamed for the lack of diversity that the city maintains? Possibly. Yet there are 3 other high schools within the Livonia city limits (including Clarenceville), and they are going to have a hard time supporting diversity when 97% of the city's population is white.

I am a current student at Stevenson and I agree that there is no diversity and most of the teachers...emphesize most do not care about teaching and seem like they are only in it for the money. Punishment is suspension and they let the kids back in and ignore what they did and continue to let it happen. They also budget cut the lowest inexpierenced teachers....They are the best teachers there and that is what students complain about the most! Yeah we got an A from the school grading system but do they really go into the details of the student population or what the students think? Not really!

I have a daughter who went to Stevenson High School. I have since removed her from this school, because the faculty shows a total lack of discretion in the material they present. Also, the school's support of liberal views makes me sick.

Believe in the statement 'No Kid left behind.' Have many programs for the kids who want to acheive. Have much support for families and kids who need extra support. Kids of all types do well. They encourage, they must continue to demand respect of our tax dollars and the future.
