Merrill Elementary is good, but there are some problems too. The bullying is one thing they need to work on. They have no real consequences. The only thing the school does is talk to the child and try to keep them apart. Special ed needs to have more one on one time and less group time. Most of the teachers are very good and caring. Miss Linda is the best person you will ever meet. All the children just love her. I like that they have male teachers too because I think it helps some boys that might need to talk about something that they might not want to say to a female teacher. All in all a very good school, but I would only rate the middle and high school for Merrill 1 star.
My daughter had to transfer over to Merril Elem in early Dec08 due to a move. She attended the highly over rated Bullock Creek Elem for K and the first part of 1st grade. I didn't really know what to expect since it was already months into the school year and didn't know how the kids would treat her and how the teachers and staff would be. I look back now and realize how lucky we are to be a part of a great school system. They welcomed us from day one and were very kind. The children were very respectful towards my Daughter, she quickly made a ton of friends. They offer a lot of activities throughout the year including a dad/daughter dance, mother/son bowling night, christmas program, cheer clinics, fun fair, etc. I love the small town feel here and am very pleased. My daughter loves it too, very happy here:)
From the first day that we brought three kids to this school we were all impressed with the care and kindness shown to the parents and the kids. There are so many big schools that lack this kind of small school atmosphere that we find here at Merrill. The kids are asked to respect the teachers and the class. That is not the norm in most schools. Thanks you to Mrs Shoemaker and Linda and all the teachers that take the extra time to make these kids act like the young adults we need them to become.
I have 2 girls they are both good kids. My oldest needed help and Mrs. Staib and Mrs G. Glazier went above what they need to do to help her in 1st grade. She needed Special ed helpin every area. Now going in the 8th grade has over come most of her struggles and only needs help in LA .
I love Merrill school my son is in 1st grade and have had some behavior probelms. But Merrill school took the time to work with me and my son. This year my other son started kindergarden!
The Elementary is wonderful. Mrs. Shoemaker is a wonderful principal and Miss Linda helps everyone.
I would have to agree with the last parent, there is some good teachers, but some bad ones to.
I would just like to say, the school has its good and bad points. As for education, I believe the level could be higher. Not very much learning inside the classroom goes on. Some teachers dont believe in certain types of homework (book reports, extra math, social studies, science) Good points, there are a GOOD few selection of wonderfull teachers there...BAD, many of the teachers are just over due for a leave (thats elem, middle, and high).
I have 4 daughters 3 who attend Merrill Elementary and they are alway eager to go to school and learn. The teachers and Staff all really do care about our students and our school! I absolutly love Merrill Schools.
I have taken my son from another school and put him in Merrill. I am impressed with this school.
