Merrill Middle school is below the mark on almost everything. Most of the staff are very hard to get along with. Math teacher is the worst to deal with, very hard to understand and does a horrible job teaching. There has been times when every student in the class has failed the test and when asked why it is always blamed on the student. It is very plain to see to me if every student fails it means she did not teach it right. Superintendent and principal seem to care more about money than the students. If you have a problem don't expect it to be taken care of unless you are riding their back 24-7. I do have wonderful things to say about the Merrill Elementary School which I think is the best around with great teachers and staff which are so loving and always working with the parents. If your kids do not mind leaving their friends after 5th grade in my opinion I would send them to Hemlock.

Merrill hosts an amazing number of problems between students which are not taken care of effeciently or effectivly. Several parents have moved their children away from the district due to problems with other students that the staff are unable to end. Some of the teachers have unrealistic expectations for the students, are teaching above grade level and expecting students to be able to accomplish impossible assignments, with little help from the staff. When in reality the school switches teachers at the end of the year with the failing students so that they can eek out at least a D-. The only reason the MEAP scores are so high is because they completely stop regular assignments and they drill the kids on what is supposed to be on the MEAP for weeks before they take it, Instead of teaching them what they need to know throughout the year.

Merrill is a really good school and the classes don't have many kids in them so the teachers can get to know the kids better and the teachers can find out which kids need help on a certain thing so the kids can get more education than big schools with alot of kids. thanks for being a good school merrill.
