Crestwood Elementary's staff and active parent population give quite an edge over any typical elementary school. I have had three children pass through Crestwood's halls, and each year they excel both academically and grow socially. Also important is the way staff at Crestwood dies not believe in cookie cutter children. Kids with special needs or talents are revered here, which is quite a welcome change from average schools. The kids are taught respect and social skills not only by the teachers but by the Principal himself in grade geared assemblies and class chats. Everyone is accessible, parents have the option ( not pressured, as some have written) to be as involved as they are able. They are welcome and made to feel like family. I could not have asked for a better start for my children's educations. The district is excellent, but this school stands out as amazing.
The staff and students are excellent. I highly recommend this school. The parents are very involved. My daughter loves Crestwood, as she goes to middle school next year I am confident that they have prepared her well.
Every student and staff member signs a social contract at the beginning of the school year. The contract states, 'we will be: respectful, safe, generous, friendly, honest, responsible, kind, caring and hard-working.' In my opinion, the contract is an important part of the Crestwood culture during the entire school year.
Large for an elementary school. Alot of expectations put on parents to participate in every little activity, putting unecessary pressure on working parents and creating disappointment with children. We have children going to two Blue Ribbon Elem. schools in Rockford. Crestwood has by far the most requests to parents for fundraising and activity participation than other elementary schools in the area. Alot of 'cliques' in grades AND sadly obvious to students that some teachers (4th/5th) have favorites. Some 4/5th teachers are not so sensative (or in touch) with individual learning styles.
Good school academically, but very large. There were 100 second-graders in 4 classes, when my daughter went there... too big for our taste. There were also cliques, in the second grade! We removed our daughter and place her in a smaller, private school where the teachers are allowed to talk about morals and religion.
I love Crestwood Elementary! My kids go there and it is fabulus! If you don't go to Crestwod Elementary, you should!Music, art, P.E (Phisical Education,)and computers I am thrilled about! More than half of the schools kids parents involve in the schools activites.Crestwood is amazing!
I strongly believe that the entire Rockford School system does and incredible job of educating children to become responsible citizens that truly care for others, but I must say that the Crestwood staff, students, and parents really ROCK! Crestwood Elementary is definitely a community of caring individuals who go above and beyond to enrich the lives of our children! Crestwood Elementary School provides an outstanding learning environment that motivates students to learn and become responsible young adults! I especially loved the use of the Love & Logic discipline techniques which really helped my kids to become more responsible for their own choices. Crestwood provides practical Love & Logic tools and techniques in their monthly newsletters and offered classes, books, and videos about this program to help foster respectful, healthy relationships with my children. The Love & Logic program made parenting more fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic! Thanks Crestwood!
