My school has a wonderful staff, they are caring about the children and have a great curriculum for their students. Great opportunities for your children to be successful.
Meter Charter Academy is the BEST school around. They know how to get the best out of your child by pushing them to not only match their goals but surpass them. You will not be disappointed if your child attends Meter Charter Academy!!!!!!! The teachers, principal and staff go out of their way for each child!!!
Metro is the greatest school in the area. The teachers are dedicated and truly care about the children. Everytime I bring other family members to events at Metro they are always impressed with the manners of the other children. I have a child that struggles in school and a child that excels and regardless year after year the teachers made sure they both get what they need to keep moving forward.
My child has been at Metro since Kindergarten, and is now in 2nd grade, she is faced with challenges, and just like life nothing is easy,I currently work for another school district and would not even consider my child going to this district. Yes every school has a few areas to improve and I am not the type of parent that sends my child to school and does not follow up, the teachers so far are concerned and patient and willing to work with my child.
Well, I go to school at Metro Charter Academy. I'm a seventh grade girl in the advanced learners program (ALPs) and i have been attending Metro since 1st grade. I enjoy Metro because we get to learn and they never stop throwing challenges at you, but bullying and drama are also present in Metro. I understand how people might not want their kids to go to our school because of this, but lets face it, everyones a bully, and everyone gets bullied, at every single school, and Mr. Ward will fix that. As for the drama, Mr.Ward will fix that too. You'll probabaly notice at Metro that the middle schoolers tend to be more behaved than the younger student, and thats because Mr.Ward is the middle school dean. I'm pretty sure that if Mr.Ward was the principal this school would be straight. just sayi8n.
I am a parent of two Metro students. My oldest son is now in the 7th grade (this being both children's 3rd year at the school) and his transition was very good. He is challenged with the work and all his teachers are wonderful. I have sat in a few of the classrooms during instruction and I have no compliant. The MS staff keep the line of communication open with us. My youngest is now in 4th grade and his transition the first year was very rough, the 2nd better and now his 3rd year great. My son has special needs and the school has done everything plus more to ensure his success at the school. I know most schools would have just tried to get rid of the problem but with our help and all of the staff and I do mean all (office staff, cafeteria staff, middle & elementary deans, para-professionals and play ground volunteers) at the school, the school has been a blessing to my family. I would refer Metro to anyone looking for a moral base school with a staff that is able, and willing to do what it takes for your child to succeed.
I have to agree with the last post. My son attended Metro a couple of years ago for middle school. His experience was outstanding. I believed the samething would happen for my other son who is in the lower ele. program. Totally different experience. In fact when I bring information to the attention of the school leader understanding that she is the instructional leader of the school, she down plays it or sends the concerns to her Dean; to me she is unwilling to address the issues that are going on. Now Mrs. Kouba was a great leader she was interested and valued the ideas and concerns of parents. Mrs. Wildfong is total opposite it doesn't appear that she is concern or does look at parents as an important stakeholder in her school. It is my belief that she should be more personable and follow up with concerns. I also believe that the expectations of student learning has become watered down. New teachers that are not familiar with the philosphy of the school is evident. Now it seems that the middle school hasn't changed Mr. Ward is still there and he demonstrates great leadership. However with the change in leadership the school at least the lower ele. has its challenges.
My daughters teacher is nice and the school is god and I thing the kids will have good charactor from what I see so far.The down fall of the school is the principle Mrs.Shelli Wildfong. She is a bully and very petty and controlling and they school fires her I would give it five stars.Think twice about this school just because if you have ANY complaints about how they do things may it be wrong or right your opinion will not be well recieved.
My Kindergartener and 7th grader currently attend Metro and WE love this school. The staff runs the school very, very well...from the parking lot to the inside operations. My 5 year old never wants to miss school even when ill and my 7th grader comes home and often says she's had an awesome day at school. The work is challenging (I often have to go online and brush up on Math skills and other areas to help the 7th grader with HW). The Middle School Dean is awesome (stays on the kids about doing things appropriately). I often say that the kids are very sheltered because they bcan't get away with much. Overall I would strongly recommend METRO .
My child is graduating the 8th grade from Metro this year and has attended since Kindergarten. My daughter is currently attending. There are some likes and dislikes as with most schools. The principal is great. My son was being bullied and it was taken seriously, handled by the end of the day without any reprecussions on my son by the other students. Also, the child who bullied him came to me and apologized and we haven't had any other issue with him. The biggest problem are the parents who want the school to raise their kids and don't take responsibility for their childs bad behavior and aren't present to help out in the school to see what is really going on. The responsibility doesn't lie just in the school. I have volunteered since Kindergarten and ALWAYS see the same parents volunteer. It's sad because it is a school that WANTS the parents to come and be present and the parents want their kids to get the excellent education they receive but wont come help at school or support their child and trust me there are many opportunities to do so. Most of the schools in our area are doing poorly so parents need to be more accountable instead of pointing fingers. Communication works!
I could not disagree with the last post more. This school is awesome! The new administration has worked hard to instill a sense of family at this school. Did the previous parent even bother to discuss their "issues" with the classroom teacher? I love Metro and it provides a great learning environment for all children.
We have had the worst experience at this school. They have the worst leadership I have ever seen in a school. We are pulling our children out with only 3 months left in the year. We have had numerous problems and meetings about the bully issue at this school. Nothing has changed. Both my children have had incidents with bullies. The principal is new and she doesn't seem to have the leadership skills to conduct the school appropriately. When we tried to address an issue that we thought was important, the Dean freaked out and refused to listen. But when the other couple that was there because their son was also being bullied, she listened to them about the SAME issue we tried to bring up. Good Luck if you try this school.
I just recently transferred my children this school year to Metro Academy from a school that's literally next door to my home. In the beginning they didn't care for it as any new kid, but as time escalated they've grown to like it. My daughter whose in 5th grade is participating and very competitive about learning more now. My son whose in 6th grade loves being in the band in which the other school don't have. I as a parent loves the challenges in education my children are facing. My son asked me for help for with his homework for the first time in yrs. I know hes learning something. The teachers are great. The parking lot staff are patient and considerate. I strongly recommend Metro Academy.
This school is wonderful!! The staff is great and they DO truly care about their students. Many parents don't see each teacher and their interaction with their students. These teachers and other staff members are more valuable than most parents can appreciate. Take responsibility as a parent and don't put everything on the school. Metro Rocks!!
I just read the review posted on March 21 and I couldn't disagree more! I have had my two kids at Metro for 3 years and they have had the best educational experience ever. I have always felt like Metro went above and beyond trying to accomodate my children and their needs. The teachers and staff truly care for children and I wish Metro had a high school! I highly recommend Metro to any parent who wants a great education for their child. -A happy parent
I just recently pulled my three children out of metro academy school it was the worst experience me and my children ever had to go thru, the principle was very unpleasent and horrible to deal with in any matter that came to his attention, at this school they made my children feel like they wasnt worthy of being at this scholl because both my boys have learning disabilities my children often came home balling there eyes out telling me they dont care about them and they hate the school , they dont help them at all, it was just a very unorganized school all they care about is there rating and dealing with my children and there needs was not good for them. To all that will ever think about enrolling there child in this school my advice is to rethink it , and make a better choice for your child/children.
This school has the best teachers who care about the students. The PTO is great and does many things to take care of the staff. The school offers academics at different levels so no one is left out or left behind. The school offers many afterschool activites, sports, electives and more!
I am pleased with the overall size of the classrooms. There are parapros that assist the kindergarten teachers. The public schools cannot turn away students and they have nearly 35 kids to a class without parent helpers or parapros. I know this because we left Garden City Schools for this reason.
We're very pleased with Metro it was our son's 1st year there this past school year. He grew socially, behaviorally and academically. We loved his teachers as well. Metro has been a great fit for our son.
