Alice Smith is our local elementary school. I am a parent in the Hopkins School District and could not be happier. Alice Smith has wonderful teachers and staff members who value and embrace each child. The teachers are extremely committed to the school and the students. The school atmosphere is energetic; filled with busy, happy kids who are ready to learn. Alice Smith Elementary is very welcoming. You feel it the minute you walk in the school. The global outlook and vision is wonderful. I also appreciate the great community support and involvement. It's a great neighborhood school and I encourage you to visit.
I agree with the reviews posted in 2003-2005. It was a great school with a great principle and teachers. Unfortunately, this district is mismanaged on monetary and overall focus. The good teachers can not continue to make up the difference. As an example we know that they are only getting through 8 of 12 Units in Math while neighboring districts finish all 12. Test scores show this. We regrettable seen great decline in the past 4 years and pulled both of our elementary age children out to go to another district.
I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Alice Smith. The teachers, principal and programs are A1! Kurt Nordess really DOES know all the kids by name, and he couldn't be a nicer man. I'm beyond impressed with my 4th grader's experience there and am looking forward to sending my kindergartener in the fall.
I love how this school welcomed my special needs daughter with open arms.
Our second child is entering 4th grade this fall. We love AS. Kurt Nordness is an excellent principal...reacts well to a crisis. Knows all the kids by name. They have good programs for gifted children so they do not get bored.
My son entered Alice Smith below his reading level in 2nd grade, he started 3rd grade at the proper level and began 4th grade above his reading level. The teachers are great.
Excellant school! I have had three children attend this school, and all three have had a wonderful experience there. They are well prepared for middle school and high school. The teachers are fantastic. I highly recommend this school
