Minnetonka East Middle School

We have been thrilled with the teachers, administration and opportunities at MME. Our son is in his second year there and constantly talks about how great things are at MME. He enjoys the independence, the opportunity for honors classes, the variety of after school activities/athletics and the way teachers make school interesting and even fun! As parents, we appreciate how kids are expected to act in a respectful manner and the principal's communications on important school events as well as offering guidance to parents about the changes our kids are experiencing. We feel fortunate that our kids have the opportunity to attend such a great school!

Both my children attend MME and it has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. The teaching staff is professional and caring, the administration is responsive and hands-on, and the course work is challenging and relevant. As I compare stories with friends in other school districts, our decision to send our children to Minnetonka schools is constantly reinforced.

I have nothing but positive to say about MME. We switched from private school to MME with our oldest and the transition went so much smoother than we could have anticipated thanks to the staff at MME. We now are on child number 3 at MME and still loving it. Having children at both ends, high potential and special needs, really made me nervous, but the teachers and staff work wonders with each and every student and it is amazing the self confidence all of my children have. The before and after school programs offer so many options for my children to make an even greater connection with their school and fellow students. Keep up the great work MME!

MME is a great school for all kinds of students. The teachers "get" middle schoolers and truly enjoy working with this age group. The curriculum is interesting and challenging and the teachers make the tough subjects fun. The administration is wonderful, too - very responsive to students' and parents' needs. We're lucky to have such a strong middle school in our school district

We have been disappointed in MME. It seems to be a vast, on going experiment in crowd mgmt. While we find the teachers & staff friendly, we also find the teaching standards to be minimal, likely due to the extremely large classes. (Some classes don't have enough chairs!) Example: our 7th grader was given a vocabulary book which her two older sisters had used at a different school. They were required to know the spelling, definition, accents, antonyms and synonyms for each word, with weekly tests. At MME, all that is required is to be able to pick out a general definition from multiple choice. When I mentioned this to the Vice Principal of the MMW School, I was told that all that other work was merely rote memorization and contributed little to a child's educational development. Unless your child is gifted, be forewarned, MME is a minimalist educational experience.

I Think this is a great school, all the teachers really help you with the topics you struggle in. I know for a fact some of my weaker subjecs have really turned on to my higher ones. They also know how to make our education fun so we actually pay attention.

I think this school is the best! I just got into middle school as a 6th grader and I adore it so much. If anyone was afraid of going into Minnetonka Middle School East, they have nothing to worry about. They have great teachers that care and respect you, and it is a great place to learn and make friends.

Most of the teachers teach you what you need to know but there are some problems. For 1 I felt as if through out the next years they were make memories more than teaching us what we needed to know for the next years to come. I feel as if we could have learned double what they taught us but they were teaching the minimum. The teachers were wonderful inviting helpful but they feel as if we need to take it slow and I am personally a fast learner and that was on of my main problems I went through.

Minnetonka Middle School East is an exceptional school academically and in many other ways. At MME, it all starts at the top. The leadership here is like none other. Principal Dr. Mark Larson is an amazing leader who uses humor, good sense, great values and caring to lead his teachers, students and parents. It is a great place to be at a time when kids are figuring out just who they are in this world and where they want to go. They have great role models at MME. A flagship program initiated by Assistant Principal Pete Dymit called 'Do the Right Thing' is in place at MME right now. Isn't that what we are trying to do when raising our kids? Not only are we giving them an education academically, but we are trying to teach them to 'do the right thing' in life.

MME has been a great school for my 7th grader. The teachers are committed, the entire staff truly loves teaching this age group, and many say they'd only teach these middle schoolers. The environment is safe, nuturing, but with high expectations for all. One thing I love is the level of communication available. With the online Blackboard system my son can track assignments daily, even download worksheets. And I can log-in and check grades and whether or not his assignments are all turned in on time and how he's tracking. I love this school and would recommend it to anyone.

MME proved to be a wonderful experience for my daughter throughout the three years she was in attendance. We found that the teachers challenged the students,provided extra time to help them when needed, kept them accountable for their assignments and time management, and treated them with the utmost respect. MME was a place my daughter wanted to be before, during and after school as often as time allowed to participate in all of the great co-curricular activities that were available. We are very comfortable with MME and thus, our second daughter who just began comes home with so many great things to say at the end of the day! We are extremely happy with MME! The 6th grade experience is a whole child approach giving them the skills to succeed academically and personally. 7th & 8th grade curriculum and opportunities are tremendous! Minnetonka has something for everyone. Expectations are high here and they have the scores to prove it. $ Languages are offered as well as band, orchestra and choir. Parent involvement is also high. Most times when I volunteer there are too many of us! More than a great school experience this district shows kids how to look outside of themselves and at the world around them through the many service learning events. Moving here was the smartest thing we ever did!

I have had 3 children attend MME and all have had positive experiences. I have seen the principal greet all the students by name as they enter the cafeteria for lunch. This is just one example of how the staff makes an effort to connect with the kids--even if it is just by letting them know they (the staff) know their names. I have a child currently in 8th grade who is in 3 step classes while my other 2 children are more average students. As a parent I have seen them all be presented with challenges and encouraged to be active problem solvers. Communication with home is open, but students are encouraged to self-advocate rather than relying on parents to do it for them. There are extracurriculars available in sports, clubs and academics.

MME has been a wonderful experience for my 7th grader. What makes this school special is the commitment to respect and learning that radiates from the principal down to the cafeteria worker. The academic choices allow my son to study in depth the classes that he excels in and yet also get extra help with the subjects that are a challenge. MME has been an incredible school for our eighth grader. We have watched him grow and extend in so many ways. Academically, he has worked at levels he never thought possible and succeeded at every turn. He has participated in school plays, co-curricular sports, before school help, service projects and social activities; through it all he has become connected with students, teachers and administrators. He has pride in MME and so do we.

My daughter is so excited to go to MME (Minnetonka Middle School East). She is open enrolling from another district and already feels welcome! She's met kids through scouts, theatre and dance. They have all been so friendly. We chose MME because of its great leadership, accelarated courses in math, language arts, social studies and science and level I high school world language in 8th grade! There is a full offering of music, band, orchestra and choir--plus a great art program. She's very excited about their technology. Teachers are really using the stuff--beyond typing and movies! My daughter says the SMARTBoards are 'really cool!' Before and afterschool activities are amazing. My daughter is thrilled to be able to do pottery before school (8-9), although she is a bit bummed she has to have phy ed every other day.. Did I mention MME is a MN 5-Star School! Very deserving!
