One of the best things about this school is the other families. Everyone is very dedicated and involved in their children's education and it is a wonderful community. However, the director is very stand-offish and not approachable. It makes for a very us vs. them environment. Add that to the ongoing new building problems and we had to pull our kids. The teachers were getting unhappy, the kids were crammed in there and the leader kept everything to herself. We were so happy with this school when it opened but felt it was going downhill as a new building became the most important thing. Also, there is no gifted talented program, they rely solely on the fact that it is a rigorous program already.

Aspen is perfect for our family. Advanced cirriculum and dedicated teachers, with small class sizes. We also appreciate their parent volunteer requirments which encourages consistent parent involvement. It is truly a great community and our children are reading 1st grade level in K. Can't say enough good things about Aspen.

--Hand-picked, very devoted and dedicated faculty; small class sizes, no bureaucracy. Staff does their work without the distraction of loads of administrative work. MEA does not dictate curriculum or negotiate work rule demands on behalf of the faculty. What a blessing. Our old school had a handful of teachers who were lousy but being "protected" for their last years before retirement. They didn't want to be there, and decided to retire on the job. It was awful. That is not the case at Aspen. --Rigorous "no fluff" curriculum (if you don't have the heart to see your kid with a sizable helping of homework each evening, this place isn't for you) --Parental involvement REQUIREMENT. You help 40 hours. Lots of parental involvement in and out of classrooms. --Social studies and history curriculum largely free of revisionist fluff --My kids all are one grade ahead in their math work, and moving quickly. --The kids--all of them-- learn Spanish and Latin. I realize we won't be resurrecting Latin anytime soon as a current language, but you should see what it does for their reading and understanding scores in English and Reading.

Aspen Academy is and has been a wonderful school for my daughter. The curriculum is fabulous. I love how when she is learning about medieval times in social studies, she is also reading Robin Hood and King Arthur in Language Arts, as well as, learning about medieval achitecture in art. She can fully immerse her self in the study. The Singapore math program is top notch. The high parent involvement is also an unbeatable asset.

The community at Aspen is great and the classical curriculum is very rigorous. It is obvious that the teachers bring their best everyday.

I have a kindergartener, 3rd grader, and a 5th grader at Aspen. We enrolled our kids at Aspen for its reputation as a small, caring community. I had heard from other parents that Aspen is scholastically leaps beyond the other schools - but wasn't convinced. After completing 6 months here...experiencing is believing. My kindergartener who did not know his alphabet fully - is now reading books by himself. My 3rd grader is solving really tough word problems that make his very math-skilled father think twice to solve. My 5th grader has math skills that I didn't have until Jr. High and organizational skills I learned only after 6 months in college. And if all that isn't enough, I'm seeing support at the school for things taught at home like respect for authority and for other students. I love Aspen Academy.

Aspen Academy has been a wonderful acedemic choice for our family. The school community is welcoming. The parents are involved and the teachers are wonderful. The core knowledge curriculum is beyond my expectations. We feel very fortunate to be a part of a public school that exceeds our children's acedemic needs.

We enrolled our kindergartener, 3rd and 5th grader this year after 3 years of debating and have been thoroughly impressed with Aspen staff and Core Knowledge cirriculum. They are both leaps and bounds ahead of our prior public school and the teachers really care. I wish we had done it sooner.

Aspen is amazing! We switched our kids from our neighborhood school a year ago and are still a bit disheartened to see such a discrepancy between two schools. At Aspen, my academically average kids are challenged and are suceeding beyond our wildest dreams! The teachers are exceptional, each child's individual learning needs are priority & the class sizes are small. The school uniforms have a way of unifying the kids and putting the focus on learning. Attend a parent informational meeting and you will be blown away with the curriculum and the educational model. It's exciting and FREE!!!
