Unless you are rich, are Lutheran or plan on attending a Lutheran college, and are Scandinavian, you seem to be invisible at this school.
One of the top public high schools in the nation . . . my children found all the rigor they needed here (extensive AP program) and unparalleled quality and opportunities in music programs. Quality of instruction is excellent, most are veteran teachers holding highest degrees (Masters and beyond) and many have been recognized by peers as being the best in their fields. My children qualified for entrance into top colleges and universities in the nation, as Stillwater is a recognized top high school. The music program is to die for (band, orchestra, choir), with excellent directors who are tops in their field and well-connected to the greatest musicians in the world (who often come to give seminars to the students). Students have gone from SAHS to the top conservatories (Julliard, Oberlin, etc) and successful music careers. This HS has a legacy of producing great leaders.
My son is a junior at SAHS. We have looked at all the other choices available to us, we find this to be an absolutely outstanding school. If you look at the performance by demographic, these schools top any other choices. The faculty of SAHS and of ISD834 in general is excellent. Teachers come from other districts because they WANT to teach in Stillwater. The average experience of the faculty is on the order of 15 years and far surpasses the vastly less experience levels of other schools such as St. Croix Prep which has an very junior staff and an admin that lacks experience and credentials. A big part of high school, and a necessary piece for academic resumes, is participation in extracurricular activities where kids have leadership opportunities. No other school compares.
Actually I'm a student. all I can say is that this has to be one of the best schools in Minnesota. The quality of the building, staff and extracurriculars are outstanding. It is many people's opinion that SAHS has the best music program in the state, and I can vouch for that.
Best school in the Twin Cities Area.
