I am a former Heritage Academy Patriot. I was bullied here constantly. I was so glad my parents actually decided to move away from this place. This even happened in front of some of my teachers and they didn't even care. I only went to elementary school here and not the high school. I wouldn't recommend anyone send their children here, unless you hate them. At one point, I didn't even come back in from recess. I just stayed outside until it was time to go home and no one noticed, no one cared. That's about what you can expect here, small minds and smaller hearts!!

You can't go wrong choosing to send your children to Heritage Academy if you live in this area. Very devoted teachers and staff. The average ACT score this last year was a 25 and every child was offered scholarships. They've assembled a great and caring staff at both the elementary and high school. The athletic coaches are devoted and won several state championships last year.

Best in the area...but that's not saying much! Yes, the High Schoolers are given laptops to use...too bad that's all this school really has to offer them. Academics are WAY BELOW AVERAGE compared to almost another state's public schools. Firmly believe that when we finally transfer out of the area my son will be behind at least 1yr, maybe 2yrs. It HURTS me EVERY MONTH to PAY for such a pathetic education:( It is the best you can hope for in the area though and that is what my family has to keep telling itself...we just CAN'T do any better HERE! The High School is poorly run with crazy schedules that are never communicated (even on the school calendar). Some of the front office staff speak poorly of parents, even if other parents are present, laugh at you on the phone if you call to ask any questions, and in general make the school an even worse environment than it has to be. Sports are minimal and clubs are lacking. ZERO homework, NO real projects, MINIMAL writing assignments. In short, you probably don't have another choice in the area, UNFORTUNATELY that means your children will be sorely behind and have an AWFUL time trying to raise the bar once they enter college:(

Heritage Academy is the best school in the Golden Triangle. The new headmaster is very academically focused. The classes are small enough for the teachers to have wonderful one-on-one attention with each student. The technology the school uses with its students is uncomparable in the area. Each student 9-12 grade is issued their own laptop computer. All other students have access to computers for assignments and research. There is a wide variety of sports programs for all students to participate in. . All three of my children were well prepared for college when they left Heritage. If I had to do it all over again, I would have started my first two in the K-program, instead of waiting until 7th grade. The new elementary principal has made incredible improvements at the school, and I hear there are more to come. There are positive and negatives to every school in the area. No school is perfect, but for the Golden Triangle area you can't beat the quality of Heritage Academy. Not only will your child get a good education, but they will like the teachers, their friends, and the environment, which always makes learning more enjoyable. I miss being a Heritage Academy Patriot.

This school is the best you can hope for in the area. Unfortunately, compared to almost any other public school in any other state, this school really lacks everything. The facilities aren't great, the teachers aren't great, and the academics are SORELY lacking. If your child will be attending a MS University or college it will suffice, however if they have any higher expectations be prepared for them to be WAY BEHIND the most average of curves. My advice...if you are economically trapped in this area or are stationed here due to the military, try to get out as quick as you can, however this school will DO until you can and is definitely your best option. If you have any choices at all in your families location or children's education, avoid at all costs! On a positive note...do not worry about safety at this school, it's small enough to almost guarantee you will have zero problems.

I think Heritage is a GREAT school. My parents & other parents started Heritage Academy for me my 3rd grade year. I love what it stands for and the way Heritage prepares my children for college and life skills. I would highly recommend Heritage to any new person coming to Columbus, MS.

My child has been in the public school system and has recently enrolled at Heritage as a high school senior. Our experience, already, has been phenominal! The school is focused on educating the "whole" child, the administration and teachers are hands on, approachable, positive and the parents are so involved. Heritage has the most welcoming atmosphere I have ever seen. This atmosphere is so conducive to learning and excelling. I look forward to this year and this experience. Should have made this decision a long time ago!!!

2 of my children have attended Heritage Academy and I have been very pleased with their education and the positive influence the school has had on them. My daughter graduated this past year and I was extremely impressed with her ACT score.

All three of my children attend Heritage Academy. The level of education my children receive at Heritage will take them far in the world. Thanks to the faculty and staff for providing quality education in a safe Christian environment.

Heritage Academy has the highest academic standards in this area. Heritage Academy was one of the first schools in the state to partner with Apple and provide Macbooks for each high school student.

My children have been attending Heritage Academy for the past 6 years, and we have been very happy with the academic excellence that Heritage is known for. The teachers and Head Master care very much about each and every child.

Yes, there are some excellent teachers at Heritage Elementay School, but I was very disappointed with way things were run at the High School Level, as the Headmaster catered to a few select parents. Some of the High School teachers should have retired long ago and/or stayed retired from the public school system instead of being hired on at the private sector. The present counselor does not like the students and they know it, as she shows her favortism openly; there are too many cliques and bullying. For the amount of tuition being paid the education level is behind other states by about two years.

Heritage Academy has been a wonderful experience for our family. The classroom environment is both challenging and enjoyable for the children. Parents are well informed about student activities and are encouraged to participate. The students are under the guidance of great leadership! The academic program at Heritage is kept at a high standard and the test scores prove that. We wished we had transferred to The Heritage Family years ago!!!

I could not be happier with our experience at Heritage. We have three children who are all very happy with the elementary and high school. This school has a family friendly atmosphere, dedicated teachers and administration, and is providing the children a college prep curriculum education. We have friends in Jackson, MS and Nashvlle, TN who are surprised at the level of education our children our getting for the tuition compared to private schools in their cities. The Apple computer program is great, and the ACT/SAT test scores are impressive.

I have had my 2 children enrolled here for the last 3 years, and I can't say how much I and my children love it. I grew up here in Columbus and went to public school, and the things my children are already learning is beyond belief for a 1st grader. He is reading chapter books, doing fractions, and learning french. As for the "outsiders", I have not felt that way. I grew up poor and have become a professional as an adult, but everyone there treats me like I graduated from there. I LOVE IT. Try it yourself, I think you will love it to.

The principal is amazing and is completely dedicated to the school. The teachers are very good and are highly qualified. The student life may be very intimidating to anyone outside of a certain tax bracket, as everyone is generally well off and isn't afraid to flaunt it.

I am a parent and have had 2 graduate from Heritage. We researched very carefully all of the schools in the area when we moved here several years ago. We moved from another state and public school. My children adjusted nicely to the caring environment. Both my children received academic scholarships upon graduation and the school's ACT average school is the top in the area, except for MSMS. We found Heritage to be a great school in many areas and teachers who are caring and want to be at Heritage.

I've been a student at Heritage since my kindergarten year, and I have to say I have had a very pleasant experience while at Heritage. My favorite year was my sixth grade year and my teacher that year was the most caring, kind person I've ever met. She truly cares about each and every one of her students. Even though the high school has it's cliquey issues, I realize that's a part of life and will be everywhere you go, regardless of public/private school. Heritage is the first MPSA accredited school in the state to partner with Apple to distribute state-of-the-art Apple Macbooks to every student in grades 7th-12th starting in January 2008. This will enhance the learning capibility and technology for our school, also attracting military base families and families involved with Sever Corr, as well. Heritage is a great school, and has a faculty that is second to none!

As a military family coming from another state(MO) we researched the schools before we moved and chose Heritage. The education my son received is not worth all the tuition we paid. I don't know if it's the Mississippi education system to blame or not. My son was not challenged enough. The stuff he learned at Heritage this year was what he learned in 4th grade in Missouri last year. As for the 'outsider's' being treated differently I have found this to be true. My son and other military kids were picked on.Certain parents seem to run the teacher and the school. The textbooks were in terrible condition. Not worth the book fee we paid either. I think the school gives a so so education and is out to make money without improving the education. My son won't be enrolled next year at Heritage.

Perhaps with a new administration, this school has a better outlook for the 2006-2007 school year. My children had the worst educational and social experience of their lives there, and I cannot recommend this school. I will only mention a few of the many problems we experienced with this school. The teachers at this school had trouble spelling words correctly in notes sent home. The few 'chosen' parents run the school, and the administration turns its collective head in the other direction when a chosen child misbehaves. Military children, children of color, and newcomers are ignored by the overwhelming number of cliques in the high school. In the elementary, any parent can show up, name a child, and have that child put in his/her vehicle to go home in the afternoon without ever showing identification. For extracurricular activities, it's all about football. Forget everything else. Save your money. This place isn't worth it!

As parents of an '04 graduate who attended HA for all 13 years, our experience was very positive. Facts:test scores are consistantly higher than national and area averages, and 99 to 100% of graduating classes consistantly go on to college. There's not a school in this country that will not encounter problems, both major and minor. It's how you handle them that separates administrations and faculty. Those I can think of that cropped up at Heritage were met head-on and dealt with swiftly. In our experience, the Board of Directors was pro-active in seeking improvements to the campus and academic curriculum and support. Our student was lucky to be part of a wonderful graduating class, collecting irreplaceable memories and friends to last a lifetime.

HA may have a science lab for K-6, but the best their science teachers can come up with in the high school is how to test the density of a rock. Growth in dissatisfaction is about the only growth that HA is experiencing at the current time. The public schools offer teachers certified with teaching degrees and a far better selection of courses. Heritage utilizes their excess sports coaches to teach in areas for which they are not qualified.

Having been at Heritage for three years now we are very impressed by not only the academic perforamce but also the enormous support from teachers and leadership at the school. The teachers at Heritage truly love what they do and enjoy challenging our children to become the best students possible. The parents are very involved throughout the school and there are several volunteer opportunities for everyone. Our school is experiencing a tremendous growth right now and it is exciting to see what the next couple of years hold in store for our school. A new computer lab was just built with funds raised for our elementary children. All grades (k-4 - 6) now go to computer lab weekly.

Let me begin my review by responding to the comments of one of the previous parents from the Military community. HA is a private school made up of families who want their children to receive a College Preparatory education in a safe, christian environment. To say that the parents of HA care only about 'segregation' shows the level of intelligence of this parent,(notice the way they misspelled words). HA's fine arts department has been hit this year by some unfortunate issues, however, the administration of the school has acted quickly and concisely to make a bad situation a good one. What about HA students' ACT scores, for the past 7 years, HA graduates have scored well above the National, MS, and SACS averages and the graduates of 2004 were offered more than 2 million dollars in scholarship monies, no other schools in the area comes close.

I love the closeness the kids have with the faculty and with each other. Heritage Academy is like one big happy family, with everyone looking our for each other. The academics are excellent and the teachers can't be beat. The faculty to student ratio allows for the faculty to take time with individual students when it is needed. We have tried other schools and we always come home to Heritage.

Our family seems to have one positive experience with Heritage Academy after another. The accelarated reading program is second to none. Students can now enjoy a new computer lab. It is also refreshing to note art and music are part of every student's curriculum.

I am a graduate and have decided to send both my 8 year old and my 4 year old to Heritage. The accelerated readers program is second to none. I am amazed at the stuff my second grader is learning! The faculty is one that can be compared to any faculty anywhere in the nation. Absoulte A+!

This is a relatively small private school, but we graduate outstanding students year after year, evidenced by high ACT and SAT scores and high scholarship numbers consistantly. I am proud to say that my child is the first 3rd generation to attend this year. My mother was valedictorian of the first graduating class in 1972. Heritage actually begins in 4K, and is SACS accredited.
