OGCE has come a long, long way in the past four years under the leadership of Dr. Janice Barton. It is now one of the top schools in the district and the state. The teachers provide a nurturing, caring environment in which the students can be challenged to high levels of learning. Parents are welcome at all times to participate in their children's education. This is a school to watch!

Last year was the first year for 4 of our 5 children to ever attend school. Our oldest son had started at the local high school the year prior, sort of as a test case. We had homeschooled our five children up to this point. Coming in we had high expectations and were leery about sending our children to a public school. I am pleased to say that our oldest daughter and our middle son had a wonderful year at Oak Grove. The teachers were exactly what they needed and the class size was very managable. This year our middle son and our youngest son are attending Oak Grove as our oldest daughter has moved on to the Middle School. I feel good, as a former homeschool dad, sending my children to Oak Grove. The campus is safe and the staff cares about what they are doing.

The teachers go out of their way to help your children at this school. The school is also beautiful inside and out and very secure...however, the classroom sizes are horrible. It says 17 per teacher it is more like 27 and I am not exaggerating. It is quite difficult not only to control a class of this size, but to spend time with each student to check their progress. The class size is a detriment, and a shock coming from private schools to this.

The 2004-2005 school year has improved very much with hard work of the new Principals. Dr. Barton was the Assistant Principal of Hernando Elementary and Mr. Ray is the new Assistant Principal at Oak Grove. I had a son there 3 years ago. Although his teachers were wonderful,I was not thrilled with the school itself. The improvements made this year are incredible and now I feel that it is a wonderful, safe place to send my child to learn. I have full confidence that it will continue to improve with the leadership of Dr. Barton and Mr. Ray. They are doing a wonderful job.
