Well it's hard sitting here reading negative comments about the school you've been attending for the past 12 years and have grown to love, but it's alright. People always say 'You can't knock it before you try it'. Well I've been at Herky since nap times were hip and the monkey bars were the place to hang out so I think I know a thing or two. I can see where people complain Herky's TOO sports-oriented or TOO school-spirited. WEll I can only assume these people weren't real big into sports or school spirit. That's fine; just don't come to Herky. The negativity and APATHY during school is what's hurting your education, not the teachers. This school cares about tradition more than any other school (This comes from non-Blackcats as well). So I recommend just as long as you get involved and just don't coast through high school.
its a very nice and decent school.
We are proud parents of two graduates of Herculaneum High School. Our experience as parents are positive. Our graduates share very positive experiences. The teachers should be congratulated on their hard work, motivation, and spirit to mentor the students to their highest potential. Academic programs are considered excellent by our family. Extracurricular activities are abundant depending on the interest of the students. Commitment by students and families are high in our opinion. Struggles to balance work, other children in the family, extended family, and personal needs vary from family to family. Family present at events become 'Blackcat' families to those students whose family are otherwise obligated to work, caring for younger children, and older adults. Our family wishes to thank the teachers, administration/counselors, and Board for the efforts to provide the very best educational and extracurricular opportunities to their students. Highly recommended school by our family. Go Blackcats!
terrible academics and too much emphasis on athletics.
Herculaneum High School is one of the worst schools I have ever been to. The school is so sports and school pride focused, they almost forget the education part. Since I have been going to school here we have had 3 different principles. Most classes are way below where they are supposed to be.
I am a former student of Herculaneum High School I am now attending graduate school at Missouri Baptist University. I believe that I was well prepared for college. I am also regarded as one of the best workers at my job. Herculaneum High School has my highest recommendations.
As a graduate of Herky High, I think this is one of the Best schools in the county. I was not involved in sports or cheerleading. I was not a member of the choir or band. Nor was I in national honor society or on the school newspaper. However, there was still plenty for me to do here. I was on honor roll and attended college and did just fine. I attended the Dunklin R-5 school district since kindergarten. The teachers do care! They probably have room for improvement noone is perfect. My parents were involved as were many others. Some parents don't get involved in anything that doesn't benefit them. That's fair to say about all schools in general. If you don't like this place or don't want to send you kids here. Move! We don't need your negative comments! Go Blackcats!
I am a graduate of Herculaneum High School. The art program is not 100% awful. I loved it. Teachers do care about our education and it is obvious through the resources that are provided. For example, Satellite television units and provided transportation for students taking college classes on a campus nearby. There is also a work program for seniors who have a job. Parents were also involved a lot. In fact, most of the parents I met were through sports and academic events. Herculaneum is a great school and complainers should get involved if they are serious about their accusations. If they are really concerned, then help instead of complain. I loved my high school and I was involved in sports and clubs. The school constantly recommended us to join athletic and academic organizations. I am now a college graduate and so are most of my high school peers. Herky!
I believe Dunklin R-5 is a 'Great' school district. Like all school districts, they have their problems, but overall this is a great district for your son/daughter education. Athletics are very strong at the high school, but there are several other strong programs for students: band, drama club, dance, cheerleading, FBLA, FCA, Scienc clubs and others. The district is very supportive in students education and extracurricular activities.
My children love Herculaneum High School, their teachers, staff and classmates. My kids feel that the teachers at Herculaneum really care about their success and feel that they are more than just another face in the classroom. As far as academics are concerned, my children take the advanced classes and have a very demanding homework schedule. I am very involved with what is going on in the school and truly believe that my children are receiving exactly what they need to do well in college or the workplace. I agree with the counselor on the extra-curricular opportunities. The students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. If you want your children to develop a sense of community and pride for their school while receiving a top notch education this is the school for your son or daughter!
