As a teacher and parent, I highly recommend this school and community to anyone looking to move to Las Vegas or within Las Vegas. The staff is amazing and the school community as a whole is so inviting. If you are looking for a school for your kids to feel safe, happy and receive an outstanding education, Lummis fits all the criteria.

I really don't know what the author of the June entry is talking about. My daughter so far has had an amazing K-3 experience at this school. Her kinder teacher hatched chicks, every year her class put on a play, teachers individualize instruction to meet the needs of each child, and school is fun! Her teachers were experienced, kind, and truly outstanding. Students are not allowed to push into the lunchroom, and it is important to note that it is a district-wide policy to play first / eat second. Students do need to eat rather quickly to finish on time, but that's everywhere. Pit bulls?!? Dogs are not allowed on any school campus in this district. The only comment I'd agree with is the one about the old copiers, which is really due to insufficient education funding, not the school itself. Despite budget cuts and increases in class size over the last few years, this school continues to be excellent thanks to the awesome PTA and amazing staff.

New to Las Vegas and read this was one of the best schools. It was the WORST experience for my family. The kids are mean, parents look like gangsters (comparing tatoos, bringing their pit bulls on campus) etc. I volunteered to help in my daughters class. Teacher was so disorganized. Only 1 copy machine out of 5 worked. My kids would come home starved because they would either not get enough time to eat or hot lunch ran out. My child was injured during a "push war" to get to the lunch room. This school has the most unfriendly front office staff. I guess this is a good school for Las Vegas standards but not mine. We pulled our kids out and put them in private school. Our family is happy again.

Lummis Elementary has a wonderful, caring staff that really meets the needs of the children. The extended day kindergarten was worth every penny. My child was reading within months. There are many extracurricular activities for the kids and a very active PTA. They host many events for families throughout the year. I was also pleased with the GATE program they offered.

Parent of 2 daughters that attend this school. We moved here from another state and I was worried to put them in public school. We love it! Organized school- fun activities.. the principal is fair-- and addresses any problems immediately and with care. Great kind teachers--good mix of kids! highly recommend. Everyone walks /rides to school-- fabulous neighborhood/easy playdates etc..

This is a wonderful, small school with great community involvement. Parents are encouraged to be invoved with the school and there is a ' flag ceremony' every Friday that involves the entire school and parnets may also attend. It is an excellent school with really caring, committed teachers.

Very nice school in Summerlin North. Next to park, play ground, pre-schools, middle school and community school. Good inexpensive onsite after school care (Safe Key). Our daughter was in 1st grade. The teacher and class were both very nice. Many inexpensive fun classes are offered by City of Las Vegas in the next door community school. The library and pool are both in a walking distance.

My son is in his 4th year at Lummis. We have been very happy with his education, the school's community involvement, the parental involvement, the after school opportunities, etc. The school had been a year round school until the begining of this school year. We are now a traditional 9 month school. My son was diagnosised with ADHD towards the end of 1st grade. The teachers have been wonderful with making slight changes that help him do his best. Example: spelling words on Friday so he has 2 days extra to study, seating him with students that won't distract him. I've always felt very comfortable communicating with his teachers. The courtyard at the school has several tortises, chickens, 2 goats. Learning about and caring for these animals is a big part of the fun for the children. They are learning and they don't even know it.
