Durango HS is an amazing school! Most of the population is spirited and the teachers are great . I graduated this year (2014) and I am extremely proud to say I graduated from Durango hs, I wouldn't want to go to any other high school. I went to Durango for 3 years , my freshmen year I attended spring valley which personally I don't recommend. The children have attitude and are belligerent. The school is not spirited at all and I hated my teachers. I came to Durango my sophomore year and have loved this school all 3 years, I loved the assemblies , the spirit days , the sports , the pep rallies , everything ! But the most important learning! Teachers made my days worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone ! Hs is a fun experience if you enjoy and get involved ! If your child is not involved then they probably won't have much fun , but if they go to Durango maybe other students can convince them to ! My high school experience at Durango was awesome and I'm so thankful I attended this school ! Go trailblazers !

Great school, great staff. One of the best schools in Las Vegas. Teachers are outstanding and seem to care about the kids.

Durango High School is a fantastic place for students to learn academically, socially, and grow emotionally. The majority of the teaching staff consistently goes above and beyond to ensure maxmium care and attention is provided to all.

It doesn't like a school, but club. Staffs were not acting professional. How you expect all the teenage students to be nice??? I guess that's what the principal likes.

staff was inpatient and rude to me. I was very disappointed as I gave my feedback to the secretary of principal regarding their staff, and she ignored and didn't want to listen.

It is one of the terrible school. staff is rude and helpless. the secretary of principal acts like a watch dog and wouldn't let me give my feedback to principal. I would never let my kid go to this school if I have had other choices.

Durango is a school like all others that struggles with discipline at times. Some kids misbehave and some do not - and that's life. However, the school has many excellent teachers, great students and involved parents. Schools are only as good as their administration, teachers, kids and parents, and my children have been very satisfied with this school - and grandkids will go there too!

Its not the schools responsiblilty to teach kids english in HS or any other school. These parents that get upset are down right ridiculous...do you think if I took my family to Mexico my kids would get taught in there native language? that would be a big fat no! We transfered to Durango this year after being in a Private School for 11 yrs and have been pleasantly surprised. The only class my child has is the one that the teacher doesnt speak Enlish!

Are you parents delusional? It is not the school's fault that some students are out of control, fight everyday and destroy the campus. Obviously they are out of control at home - and bring that same behavior to school. And why can't your child speak English if they are in High School? Again, it is not the school's responsibility to teach English to a Las Vegas high school student. Do your job parents - and you will make it much easier for the school to do theirs! Durango is just like every other high school, you expect a miracle without doing your job first. My daughter is an Honors student and doing well. She learned how to cope and how to succeed at home. . .

first of all if its education u want take them out of state. Nevada is ranked 49 state in all of U.S. Durango, in my opinion is average. I've seen schools much worse than Durango. The Faculty is amazing for those who take honors and A.P. but for those who take regular, well the teachers are a little worn out with the ridiculous kids. I would like to talk their parents. The parents are ridiculous for not do anything about their childs behavior. Its not the school i concerned with; its the students. The teachers are awesome and teach well. Overall i would recomend Durango for those who do not on moving out of las vegas any time soon. By the way the teachers are not allowed to do anything to the students or otherwise they get fired. So its up to the parents to control their children not the teachers.

I am a parent of two children @ durango and i believe it could be a much better place for me to have to send my children to. 50% (Or more) of the staff there could care less, or don't have the knowledge to care enough. The violence is unexceptable. At least 3 times p/wk a child is sent to emergency rm for being jumped. They have absolutely no control over the students or the surrounding area. It is terrifying every day to send my kids there.

When I went there I thought the worst thing was the kids in there. They are too rude to one another. I got picked on and that doesnt help with the demand to get a good grade. The school has dirty courtyards and grafittis in the bathroom. I saw it. But I finished school there just recently. All you know is a bunch of wealthy kids go there.

Im currently a Junior attending Durango High school, this school has been nothing but an inspiration for me to do my best, every year that I've been here the teachers supported me the best they could, any time I didnt understand anything I would come back after school and none of my teachers left until I actually understood the lesson, I dont know why so many people are complaining, the schedules just have to be adjusted to fit the school programs and all of the electives, and this could be as good as any other high school here in vegas

I am currently a senior at Durango, and the for the past 3 years I've attended there, the line between good and bad fairly clear to me. It was easy to tell teachers that are seriously focused on helping a student succeed and the ones who basically hates being there. As for the students, it may take a while for them to warm up to others, but not every one of them are as bad as many people say. The main problem with Durango is organization. If the office and teachers actually took time getting things straightened out, then they won't have over thousands of students and parents coming to complain. We have 3 months of summer break, yet they do everything at least 3 days before the beginning of the school year.

i disagree with all the negative comments, this school is amazing and the parents need to let the kids grow up and let them grow. Things happen, fights are going to happen every where you go. It doesnt matter,if you cant be your self the kids wont like a fake person.Regardless,Durango is an amazing school .

I am a senior at Durango, and I must admit, over the four years I have been here, the school has definately improved. Before, my counselor was no help and the teachers weren't any good, but now my new counselor knows who I am. Plus the curriculum is great.

Durango High School has a few good teacher but overall this school does not live up to the standards it should. my son was a gate student before this school and now he can barely make a 2.0 the teachers only seem to care to get through the day and seem to just not care.

Durango high school was great. It was very diverse and I feel that it prepared me very well for my future. Teachers are always more understanding than the kids make them out to be. With a little effort everyone can excel even in the hardest subjects. Administration is strict, but fair. Overall it is a good school to have graduated from.

My daughter attends Durango as a freshman, we are nothing but pleased. She is excelling, and I've found all the teachers motivated and encouraging. School is what each child makes of it. The counselors are also excellent, they make sure to schedule appointments promptly and answer all your questions. No complaints!

I went to this High school and never had any problems focusing on school, most of the kids that go to this school come from families in upper middle class status, school is well taken care of by staff.

I read the past reviews and was absolutely shocked. I am a graduate from Durango High School. I have no complaints. I was involved in theatre, the color guard, clubs, student government, etc. They have so much available to you, that every student could be involved in something if he or she wanted to. I learned so much from my teachers and I still visit some of them whenever I get the chance. They helped prepare me for the real world. It wasn't elementary school .. and we were responsible for ourselves and what we did. If we weren't cutting the grade, it was our responsibility to go to the teacher and say, 'Hey, can we arrange a time to go over this material?' As for fighting .. that's every where .. and if one were to break out,you can be sure Ms Biscuit would be there in 10 seconds flat!

The ONLY reason why I attend this school instead of going to a magnet school is the ROTC program. If it wasn't for that... I would run away from Durango as fast as possible. They don't even have the little things... like toilet paper or soap, and there is a fight everyday. The teachers don't care about the well-being of the students and only concentrate on getting thourgh their day as easily as possible. The counselors don't do anything. They don't know what to tell people with a problem. People get away with so many things because the administration does not treat their students the same. They don't enforce the rules until the last few days of school. The cafeteria is disgusting. The students are out of control and un-motivated. They refuse to fail students because of the 'no-child left behind' policy.

Although there are a few good teachers at Durango High School overall I have not been impressed. My child struggles in geometery and the teacher has made no effort to contact me with suggestions for remediation.

Durango High has the worst quality of teachers. My child is in the 9th grade. The school district needs to do a check on the teachers cridentals and also have teaching siminars.

Durango was a horrible school. My daughter attended for 9th and 10th grade and during that time was told by several teachers to drop out because she was 'different' and was constantly harassed (by both teachers and students). We pulled her from the school after she was physically attacked by two other students and the school did nothing. We are glad, however, that we did remove her from that school as she has become incredibly intelligent and successful as a result of us doing so.

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
