As far as CCSD schools go, Silverado is perfectly acceptable. It's not the shiniest most pretentious suburban high school, but it's also not the most beat-up underfunded school in town. From what my kids say, it doesn't have the kind of brutal Mean Girls cliques you see in your average John Hughes movie; everyone is civil to everyone else. The honors classes seem peppered with kids who really struggle to keep up, and the selections for AP classes and electives are not the greatest. But they do have some AP options and the guidance counselors, while overworked, are willing to work with kids who come to them looking to excel. Kids who are just there for the ride will totally slip through the cracks though. The sports are pretty decent, and just as underfunded as everyone else in town (no good groundskeeping for the fields, but enough balls to get through practice and fresh paint in the gym). The drama department is definitely full of drama. Extra-curricular clubs are prone to being cut when the sponsoring teachers can't take on any more work. Overall, if my kids are going to be in broke CCSD schools, Silverado is a good choice.
This school has a great cross country and track team. The coaches are awesome! The teachers are great! The administration is horrible.
What an excellent school to round out a child's education. The sports program has volunteer teachers helping in every aspect, the facilities are wonderful and safe. This is what makes memories, teaches competitiveness and builds character. Add this to the classroom enrichment, and you have a winning school!
amazing school, great place for learning
Compared to other school in the Las Vegas/Henderson area this is by far the best when it comes to staff, and the lack of drugs, gangs and violence. The grounds and school itself is very upkept and neat, and the staff are the best you'll find.
Silverado offers a diverse curriculum for students of all levels. The extra-curricular activites are fully supported by the staff and administration.
Parents are welcome anytime. Teachers are willing to help all the students and they offer many clubs that help with tutoring, community involvement, athletics or just fun.
Silverado HS is safe, but it is a real slacker when it comes to making sure diverse AP classes are offered.
I am a Student at Silverado and so far it is a great school. There are over 70 extra curricular activities including band. Which I am in and all of the band kids are very accepting and awesome.
My son attends this high school and I have found the staff to be wonderful. They are very dedicated to the students and to providing a great high school experience. There are opportunities for every student to join in activities and clubs - from scholastic type things to skateboarding clubs. Music programs, sports and drama are all big. The kids are great. I have not seen any bias on behalf of the students and I have spent a lot of time at the school - they seem to accept everyone. I was concerned when my son started 9th grade having just barely turned 14, but he got along just fine. He joined in a lot of activities and has never looked back. I wouldn't want him attending any other school.
