This school is more like independent study hall. The students are assigned to teachers, but you and only you are responsible for teaching your child each day. The hybrid day in high school is nothing more than them doing their work there on a computer in a cold classroom. I thought this is where they would be receiving instructional time with teachers. The teachers come in, have the kids sign their attendance logs, and leave them to teach themselves advanced classes like calculus and physics. They do say, "If you have any questions, let me know!" That is like me checking out a book from the library about auto mechanics, then trying to fix my engine. My daughter had to drop one class because there was NO INSTRUCTION. Oh and the curriculum? They log in and watch video instuction via youtube. Yes You read that right, youtube, and other silly cartoony characters are now replacing certified teachers. Do your research before choosing this one.

Before starting at Odyssey Charter School, I attended Shadow Ridge High School. My grades were in the C-F range in every class. I wasn't revieving enough help from my teachers. At SRHS, most of the teachers didn't bother to help me understand what they were teaching. A few friends of mine had already begun their schooling at Odyssey, and told me all positive things about OCS. Halfway through my sophomore year, I decided to turn in papers to attend Odyssey. Withing the first week, my grades rose up to straight A's and remaind A's. The work wasn't easier, the teachers made it easier to understand. The teachers at Odyssey will sit with you as long as it takes until you understand what they're teaching. They show patience and compassion. The teacher:student ratio is 4:15 at all times. If I hadn't come to Odyssey, I wouldn't be graduating on time. I plan to graduate from Odyssey this year.

Odyssey Charter School's special education team was an incredible support to my daughter this year. After experiencing a difficult year at her zone school, I was hesitant about enrolling her at Odyssey, From the very moment that we met the elementary special education facilitator, I felt the genuine support. It was a great year where my daughter gained self esteem. The facilitator always greeted my daughter by name....even at the end of the school year. This made my daughter feel important. Thanks Odyssey!

I can't say enough great things about Odyssey Charter Schools. We tried the schools we were zoned for, but our children just were not doing well. We decided to give Odyssey a shot after hearing some wonderful things about them from a friend. We are amazed at the one-on-one attention my kids have received from their teachers at Odyssey. We get regular calls home from teachers when our students are not doing well and we are able to log in daily to track how they are doing. Our kids actually enjoy school now and are eager to learn. The administrators and staff are top notch. We get quick responses whenever we call. The technology department at Odyssey is amazing! They helped us fix both of our computers for free when the Geek Squad at Best Buy was trying to charge us hundreds. They have also helped us for hours on the phone with any questions we have had with Moodle or any of the other course material. Great school, great staff, great teachers! Changing to Odyssey was the best decision we made for our kids.

Special Education: Don't go near this school without an advocate. If your child has an IEP or needs one, get an advocate first! Same for 504 plan. Do not sign anything, take it home and think about it for 2-3 days make sure all information in report is accurate and testing is correct for child's grade & age.

I've had 4 kid's in Odyssey and one of them graduated already. This school has been a life saver for us and especially for my son with autism. We had bad experiences in both private and public schools mainly because the kid's in Las Vegas are so out of control! the academics are great and the atmosphere is outstanding!! :)

This school provides great opportunities for its students. I think it a great school because the students can work at their own pace and can study the way they want to.

K-8 program is terrific. Everything the school advertised. High school is a dud compared to K-8. It is just like any other high school in the school district. My daughter is in 10th grade but they gave her Eng III by mistake. They were going to send her to PE at a park more than 10 miles away when the PE class she went to last year is just 3 miles from home and in the same Zip code as our home. It took them a semester to realize she was in the wrong English class. The counselor says she was zoned for the farther PE class and that they always put you in the nearest class to your Zip code. To top it all off, my kid has a 504 plan that they 'misplaced' for the last three to five years!

This school is truely amazing. My child had so many problems at her previous school that I was worried for her safety at times. Now that she attends Odyssey Middle School, I always know she is taken care of.

Traditional middle school was not for us with the mixed level class we were put into and the unlevel grounds we were supposed to roll our wheelchair around in. Odyssey is, again, a God sent. Great teachers, great cirriculum that builds not just from my sons lowest areas but raises the bar on the areas he is good at. We have needs that range from 1st through 9th grade levels all packed into a 6th graders body. Odyssey meets all of our education needs with a smile. Highly recommended to those who can make the time to get their kids out of schools that do not fit.

A bit late but I feel it needs to be said. I posted a review three years ago and gave the school an excellent review. Two years ago they started a different routine in preparing eighth graders for high school. While I agree it needed to be done, I was thoroughly disappointed with the way things were handled. The previous year, parents were told if they had a child in high school, eighth graders would attend school the same day. I was shocked when school started and was told my kids would be going on different days. As it turned out, my child got lost in the shuffle and did terrible that year. She is in high school now but playing catch up again. My ratings are based on what I have written above.

The Odyssey model should be the standard for ALL new schools. We've changed the way we work, we should change the way our children work. Odyssey does this using the distance learning to train for future telecommuters. It also teaches the team approach which is prevalent in the workplace today. The one downside I have found is that it seems some of the teachers either have unrealistic expectations or Zero involvement, there is no middle ground. However the only reason we moved to Las Vegas and the only thing that keeps us here is Odyssey Charter school.

I am currently a 7th grade student of Odyssey, and I gotta say, it is the Best! your parents are your teacher teachers. I love this program and I highly reccommend it, they have tutors and specialty teachers as well.

We attended the school for kindergarten and first grade. My child's teachers were wonderful. They helped her to excel academically. The teachers were able to pinpoint her weaknesses and helped me and her to make them become strengths. The extracurricular activities are great. It brings kids around the same age. If you are thinking about homeschooling, this could be a great alternative for you.

My Son started attending OCS in 1999 when they first opened and it was a fantastic school and excellent way to learn more hands on. I praise this school and the opportunity it gives my son to advance further than our expectations. The only downfall is not enough time for teacher/student relations, which should be included. But I would rather my child attend this school than any other.

The school has tons of potential. My children loved studying at their own pace and material they had an interest in. Too bad the teachers were of so little assistance. There was no grading policy and no solid expectations. Grading was completely haphazard. Fortunately we were there to learn. Sure beats the other school options in Vegas.
