I would give this school a 0 if I could. My daughter has attended 2 years at this school both 6th and 7th grade. She went from being an honor gate student to a D-F student. The bullying is out of control. I moved to Summerlin to have my daughter attend a better school little to my dismay it has become the worst school she could have ever attended. The teachers are given key tools parent link and Edmodo only a few participate in it and are not on the same page with it. I found Edmodo to be the best tool its a shame only 2 teachers used it in the 2 years she went their. It should be mandatory all teachers to be on the same page. If I wanted to meet with a single teacher I had to have all teachers and a counselor present this makes you feel intimidated. Sports and activities were limited and based on favoritism. I am no longer allowing my daughter to go to this school she will be doing online school because of the poor quality teaching ethics as well as bullying.

This school has been outstanding. The teachers respond via Parentlink and set up meetings if you request them. Most parents who complain, don't get involved or look at school as a babysitter. If you hold your kids to standards (A is an A, B is a C, C is a F in our house), the teachers and administration will help you with the discipline. I have found them all to be fair and willing to help. Of course meetings are before and after school. Is it always convenient? No. As a parent it is my responsibility to take part in my kids education. Most of the problems I've seen are from kids who's parents stand up for their child's bad behavior. This school has gone from a 3 star to a 5 star school and I'm happy to say that it's due to the accountability with the kids and the parents. Fact is if you care about your kids education and it is a priority, you will love Fertitta! If you value your personal time and don't like making a commitment to your child's education, you will probably not like the accountability and say that things are "unfair". As I was taught growing up, "Life is not obligated to be fair, but opportunity is." There are plenty of opportunities at Fertitta!

This school is horrible. The teachers are absolutely rude and give way to much homework for no reason. The teachers also let kids gat on their phones during class. The teachers are also a terrible influence ever. They eat and play on their phones all class while they constantly break the dress code, use profane language, and treat the taxpayers children like dirt.

This is one of the worst schools I've ever been to. It's horrid, ALL the staff are unbelievably unprofessional, there's constant bullying and fights and no teachers seem to care anymore about students that aren't their favorite. Three years ago before the current dean, principal and assistant principal were here, there weren't problems like these at all. Sure there were a few bullying reports, but they were taken care of immediately. I can't believe that the current principal has more time for getting pregnant than her real job that includes being the supports for all the staff and almost 1500 students. Very unprofessional. I'm glad that this is my last year here. The first two years were average, but my eighth grade year was the worst. I'd like to warn both parents and incoming students about this school that nothing seems to go right anymore. Be careful if you're going to this school.

This school is excellent! The administration, the teachers, the whole staff is there if you need them..... so to all those parents who write about the principal being pregnant again or about the teachers being so bad...or about the school having a fight a day (NOT TRUE!!!) I want to say that the biggest "problem" this school has is "Parent Involvement". Lots of talking and complaining from home or the occasional visit to the school...but when is time to help, everybody disappear..... At the monthly PAC meeting where the principal and vice-principal come to answer all kind of questions, only 6-7 parents shows up.... So even here complains like "why the meeting are in the morning? people needs to go to work" well at the couple of meeting in the evening 2-3 parents!!! So, stop complaining and do something about it!!! Get involved if you want to change whatever you think is wrong! Writing about it here does not help anybody!!!

I really love this school! There are some really helpful after school activities! Such as, homework club, geometry club, math tutoring, reading tutoring, and more! The students there are really nice, and the teachers are really helpful, too! I think your son or daughter might very certain like this school! They also deal with bullying and fights well! They now have a school district police officer walking around the hallways with the principal every day to make sure there arent any fights that are going on. ---A 6th grade student :)

Glad to say this is my child's last year here. This school has had a revolving door for administrators. The principal is pregger again! She now will have a set of IRISH twins. I understand personal life, but a school of 1400 kids needs administrators to run the school. This year they got a new Asst Principal. The male asst principal that had been there for a few years did not get promoted to principal, don't know why, but he is now principal at another middle school. At least when he was there, there were not as many fights and discipline was not a big factor. My kid tells me there is a fight daily. Great learning environment for defending yourself and for staying out of the way rather than for academics. So sad.

My child is new to Fertitta M.S.this year. She is in the 6th grade and is an exceptional student having scored 500 on her math and reading CRT's, straight A student with an occasional B. I have issues with her math teacher. We are encouraged to have our child going in before / after school to get help, recently received a "D" on a test. This brings her entire grade down. The teacher is unwilling to allow her to re-take this test or help. I'd like to add that I have a low opinion of the dean. My daughter got stopped for wearing sandals (not dress code). She sat at his office until I arrived. Glad I wasn't at work or she'd get no instructional time! Common sense is lacking. He was rude, saying he had somewhere else to be & telling me that I was "condescending" ! I am a concerned parent. By the end of our conversation he apologized (small comfort). Also, her science teacher has been out and has substitute teachers (new) every week! Why can't they hire a long-term substitute that knows a thing or two about science? I am an educator and see problems early into the school year. I plan on a visit to the counselor as well as the principal.

NO STARS. Horrible school showing bulling. I wrote review about bullying. When I read a young girl cried and not 0ne teacher cared , it made me cry. How dare they allow this school to do that. I went to Supervisor of Schools for help. I am sorry noone else did. Speak up ! Do not allow this to happen to your child.

This school is horrid. I got bullied all year, even when I came to class crying the teachers did nothing, I reported several people for bulling and nothing was ever done. I attended for two years and each year I had at least one teacher who we got graded for showing up to class. I had wonderful academics and was put as a bad kid for one RPC. I got in several fights and teachers never noticed. I was also favorited for being a teachers kid. The Principal, Vice Principal, and Dean all hated me. This is one of the worst schools I've ever attended, the students think just because their parents are rich they can do what ever, leading to the schools behavior problem. They dress code over any thing for some kids or don't even dress code at all for others.

I'm in 8th grade here, and let me just say that this is not a good school. They don't deal with bullying issues, you can fill out a report, but 9 out of 10 times, nothing will happen. The staff there plays favorites. And I have one teacher who makes fun of everything, like people who cut themselves, kids with disabilites, and pretty much everything else. The teachers all seem to cuss a lot, and allow students to too. All I can say is I'm glad this is my last year.

The principal and her staff are horrible. They're unprofessional and dismissive when dealing with concerns regarding the students. They use obscenities and vulagirties when adressing the children. In general the people who work at this school are extremely condescending. This school is one of many in vegas that fails to meet adequate yearly progress.

My child is at 8th grade and loves this school. Academically, the school teachers gave so much and loves the challenge. The staff are superb! They're friendly to say the least. Thanks Mr. Barber, in particular, for being the former match teacher (and swim coach).

Our knew principal is much nicer and the schools is great. Our orchestra is the best in the district and performed at the national music educators assosiation conference at UNLV. The acadenics are great with the exeption of a few teacher. The only regret i have is a small one. Some people say that the deans kid gets special treatment since he goes to school where his dad works. i have never met the kid so i don't know is it's true, but it does sometiomes desturb me that the deans kid goes to the school. Some say he gets special lunch everyday and gets special attention from the teachers, like he runs the place. Once again however i don't know and overall fertita is a great school.

this school is very active and we have a lot of after school activities also it is not that strict. We may not be able to chew gum or we cant hold hands or hug, but i can live without that. The only thing i would change is the dress code. In overall Fertitta is a great school.

Im in 8th grade currently attending fertitta middle school the school is clean but the teachers need to give notices to parents for un satisfaction notices to let parents and students that they are in danger. Teachers never sign up for parent teacher confriences and when you call teachers they never respond this is would be great if they had more educated teachers but the art program is awsome great way of teaching art thank you art.

My 6th grader just started attending this school after we moved here from out of state. I have not been impressed with the level of teaching, as my child has had his grades drop due to a different curiculium being taught and not enough direction by the teachers. The office staff is rude and the registrar was unbelievably unprofessional. The principal is trying to do her best with what she has, but it is an uphill battle. My son also complains about the bad language from students and teachers. Not the best learning environment.

My daughter started 6th grade there this year. They have a new principal, who I believe is trying to carry on the prior one's directive to properly prepare these kids not only for high school, but for life. While my daughter has always been a straight A student, her 5th grade experience at another school really unmotivated her. I'm very happy to see her excited and motivated about school again.

My granddaughter, who is going into 7th grade, had a great 6th grade experience. The teachers were so helpful and I cannot say enough good things about Ms. Lewis. She stayed after every Wednesday and provided her with so much help. She really liked all her teachers. They were always available when needed. Fertitta has an outstanding band program. She was very proud to be a member of band. I really hope, with the principal leaving, Fertitta will get someone who will measure up to her standards.

okay so i have to say this school has its ups and downs. theres a lot of drama at times but we always get over it. theres different cliques buut we all get along with one another. and after all this school is pretty amazing. it gets boring but everyone sets different memories here at fertitta. and its a memorable experiance you wont forget. all the clubs and activites may be fun and every teacher spends enough time with every student. ive been attending this school for 3 years now and everyone gets to know everyone. some teachers are kinda mean and strict but after all its fun since teachers mess with you by letting you have your fun time but as well as learning. OH OS THE BAND IS THE BEST BAND EVER. WE'RE NUMBER 1 IN ALL CLARK AND ALWAYS WIN EVERY COMPETITION etc. give it a try.

I'm a current student at fertitta and this school is not the best for your children. It's rough, teachers don't really help you, bullying and fights. I have 1 teacher that is very, very nice. The rest are mean. so don't waste your child's time, send them to a better school. I have been at this school since 6th grade and nothing has changed. And intouch is a ripoff. teachers are NOT putting accurate grades in. My teacher told me i had a C in her class and she gave me an F. innaccurate grades and teaching.

I have had two students attend Fertitta Middle School. The academic experience for both has been very good. The elective program--band and orchestra specifically are outstanding! Although the principal is tough, she is a bright woman who is extremely dedicated to doing what is right for children and their learning. I have appreciated the assistance my children have received making a transition from a very small elementary school to the much larger middle school. After attending Fertitta, my son was well prepared for high school.

This school has too many fees and has rough kids. They need to enforce a more effective non-bullying policy and be a little more realistic; all schools should. Bullying should not be a part of growing up because it causes long lasting psychological damage on the victims and it creates criminals. So far at Fertitta I met one teacher of my child's that is tough, but she seems like a good teacher. So far no good!

I agree with the comments posted by this parent. I feel the school is treated more like a prison and don't welcome outsiders. The intouch system is a joke take the time to print it and compare it to the progress reports.Parents take the time to call the school district, take the time to seat in class 1/2 a day,its our children's future at stake.

Clearly the previous response by a student makes the point. Many students are lacking in areas such as vocabulary, punctuation and grammar at Fertitta. Although Fertitta is a clean, safe and newer school it still needs to review its choices for student electives.

Quality of academic programs and availability of extracurricular activities are fair however, I believe the reason parent involvement is so low is because parents are discouraged instead of encouraged when it comes to parent involvement. I have tried to get involved but, I was made to feel unwanted and or unappreciated for wanting to volunteer my time, as if I don't count or matter. I was told to limit my involvement because the school wanted to instill student independence...my reaction was 'What?' I have not felt welcome, as a parent, at Fertitta since my daughter started attending the school. A real nightmare of a school in my opinion. It doesn't surprise me that parent involvement is low!

I'm not to please with VFMS. My son is a 6th grader and the teachers are not teaching the students vocabulary. My son was very motivated in learning and now going to this school he has lost interest. The students do not get books they are collecting dust by sitting on shelves. How are these students supposed to learn?

I am also currently a student at VFMS. I disagree with the parent who posted here, specifically with the promptness of schedule changes. I was to be moved up in my band class and it took less than a week for me to be in my new class. Either the schedule change is not right for your child or his schedule will not permit it. I love the school and my teachers all come to work everyday, smiling and ready to teach us. I do not see how they would be understaffed if every class has a teacher. This is a great school, coming from someone who actually goes there, everyday.

I currently go to this school. The teachers that I had were, for the most part, wonderful. I would agree that the school is slightly overcrowded, but with the growing area I would not find that hard to understand. The principal is strict, but great when it comes to the education of children. But the teachers are really good.

I am very disapointed with this school. It is outwardly obvious that the teachers are overworked, they seem extremely frustrated with thier superiors. I have called several teachers to check on my sons progress and not one has returned my call. In addition, my son was placed in (2) reading classes due to over crowding and he does not even require reading this year. I have been trying to change his classed for 6 months now, promises are made and not kept. He received A's in both classes and scored high school level in reading and they still have not resolved this issue. The school is under staffed over crowded and I would definitely stay away. My son's education is being wasted, and thier is absolutely no communication or even an effort on the schools part.
