Warning! If you have the opportunity to send your child(ren) to any other school than this one, please do so. It is a phenomenal school, with a dedicated administration and staff, as well as wonderful teachers, however, it is crippled by severe over-crowding with no relief and only ever more over-crowding in sight. Givens is the largest elementary school in the district, and, quite possibly, the state. It is projected to have a record of over 1200 students next year. Notwithstanding this increase, it is expecting to lose 5-7 teachers next year due to budget constraints! Neighboring elementary schools like Staton and Goolsby are at approximately 850 students. Although parents were told that Givens did not get the new CCSD 5-star rating this year because the school could not show sufficient improvement due to the school's already outstanding test scores, Givens was the only Summerlin-area elementary school that did not receive a 5-star rating. Teachers are not reaching past years' academic goals due to large class sizes. The cafeteria is a nightmare during all 4 lunch shifts. Kids are squeezed shoulder to shoulder facing the backs of the next row of students.
Linda Givens is a great school! If your child gets to have story and snack with Linda herself, you will know why this school gets a 10. The teachers are excellent!
This school is very organized and consistent. There are many experinced and qualified teachers at this school. The parents care and it shows because they really get involved with school activities and are generous with their donations. It's a shame there is not more funding in the district because this school is way over crowded. It is very difficult to access the school during the morning and afternoon hours. I can only imagine what its like being a student in one of the classrooms. How can Clark County be spending so much per student when these kids are being herded in like cattle? Yet, somehow Givens maintains some of the highest test scores in the valley. If you can afford it, pay for private schooling. The problems in this school district won't be fixed anytime soon.
Guess you can't choose who your child has for a teacher, beware and listen to your children.
My son has attended both Staton and Givehs schools.Any parent would be lucky to have there child enrolled in either one.But I think the PTO and parent envolment is stronger at Staton. That being satd both schools are high quality
As a substitute teacher I have the opportunity to see schools throughout the district. The teachers in this school are complete professionals and the school is run like a well oiled machine. It is amazing how well organized it is. The kids know what is expected of them and I am always amazed when I sub for a class, the students just get to work w/ minimal direction. A+ for Givens!
My son has attended from K-2nd and it's been a wonderful experience. I love the Givens encourages a strong school spirit and parent involvement. Their biggest agenda I've seen is they encourage the students (and parents) to read.
I agree with the other review regarding the Principal. I will be glad when my child is out of this school!
Givens Elementary- My daugther was enrolled in a fine Private school from grades K-3. I was told by many people that Givens was very much like the private school that my child was attending. I decided to enrol my daughter at Givens because of the high test scores, the '10' rating and the rep it has for academic excellence and strong parental involvement. Givens was exactly what I was looking for. This school has been able to give my child everything that she was getting at the private school. All year, I was impressed with the academic demand. I was suprised at the small class size of 23 students . This year my daughter was awarded for her hard work and academic excellence (unlike many private schools) and the validation will continue to encourage her and highten her interest and dedication for achievement in school. A+
The principal is on his own career climbing agenda and your child is a rung on the ladder. That's all I have to say!!!!
