My experience as a parent of children in the Cornish School has been wonderful. I found the teaching staff knowledgeable, caring, and flexible. My children benefited from the small school atmosphere which meant that their individual personalities were respected and appreciated. They were well prepared for high school and have done well on their ACT and SAT tests which opens many opportunities for them in the years ahead. My children also were involved in drama and sports, which also helped with the transition to high school. The kindergarten to eighth grade experience is excellent, giving every child a solid, warm introduction to the world of learning.
The parents are oblivious to the facts, & how lousy this school ranks! On a national level, its a 3!!! My son started kindergarten here, his "teacher" (using the term loosely) is past her prime. Lacks the ability to teach a quality education. I inquired about a tutor, or summer school, and was met with much resistance. Supervision is less than ideal. My son was choked i(n a headlock )his 1st day. Not one of the 4 staff members intervened. When I voiced concern, it was quickly dismissed. This school lacks the skills required to help students achieve academic success. When parents complain, they are retaliated against.reports made to the state dept of eduction are bounced back to the district. My sons academic success now, is from a private school at the cost of 6500/ a year. And 40 min commute one way. I don't care about the politics, or retaliation, my sons future and his academic success, is my priority and number 1 concern.
I have positive comments about the Cornish elementary school. My daughter graduated from this school to become the valedictorian in an academically competitive high school. I think the Cornish school prepares students very well for high school, and the smaller setting enables them to foster social skills and enrich their experience with extra curricular activities such as a skiing program, science fair and reading carnival. Kudos to the after kinder and after school program. I also love the homework club! So much warmth and support! Thank you for being such a great school!!
having been a bus driver there , I have been impressed by the staff, the dedicated students , and parents, who out to see that education was prime and excellant.
I have two children in the school and I have nothing but wonderful things to say. Our principal of recent was exceptional with implementing much needed changes and raising the standards for academics and behavior. More needs to done with training parents so the school doesn't need to focus so much on discipline. Parents profess involvement but I don't see it. Teachers are good but we need more 'energy' and less of wanting what 'used to be'.
Cornish Elementary is a wonderful school. The staff is fantastic. If it were'nt for a career move, my child will still be attending there.
