Irving School is an extremely diversified school where the dedicated teachers are committed to helping children love to learn.
My daughter is enrolled in the kindegarten program and attended the preK last year. She loves both of her teachers and I could not be more pleased with their attentiveness to her needs. All of the staff know her name and make our family feel welcome to participate in the school in whatever way we are comfortable. My only complaint would have to be with some of the other parents who are at times overbearing and insensitive to the diversity within the community.
My daughter is currently enrolled at Irving School. She has some minor special needs and they are being addressed wonderfully by her teacher and the rest of the school's staff. I have found most of the people I have dealt with there both pleasant and professional. Their love for the children and their desire to help that is apparent.
My children have been through this school and others in district and I must say that all schools in this district are terrible. I am actually leaving Highland Park just because of the poor education my children have received thus far.
The school focuses on how to control children in order rather than encourage them to be involved in discussing in class. They do not have any support for children who have adjustment problem. They also do not welcome bilingual students.
I have a son with special needs and I was not looking forward to putting my child in a public school where I was told I may need to fight for his rights. Thankfully my fears were put to ease once we began working with the Highland Park Child Study Team. They have done more for my son than I could have even imagined. His teachers didn't want him to miss class so they asked me if he could stay after school for extra therapy. They have brought in new programs and are doing whatever it takes to help all the children in his class learn to develop in whatever area they have need. We are in almost daily communication through his 'communication book'. And most importantly, I have seen him grow socially, physically and cognitively since he began there. He looks forward to going to school.
They don't have a lot of support for kids learning to read and having a hard time. They also cut the special enrichment program for the gifted kids.
The school is devoted to preparing children to succeeding on standardized tests. Recess time is limited at best. Children with special learning needs - on either end - struggle here.
Awesome! the teachers, staff and programs are amazing and supportive, open and very postive on childrens level of learning and understanding. I cant wait for my youngest son to start there & joine his brother this year!
