Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Since this is the only Christian school in the area, families wanting their children to get Christian education is stucked with it. Although the school strives for excellence in athletics, there is barely any effort at all in helping out students achieve academic excellence. The guidance office is pretty much non-existent which is a big disservice to the students and their families. Many graduates leave the school without any clue what to do in college because the school has no program to help students prepare for college and the after-life outside Timothy. Most graduates enroll in college as "undecided". Standardized test scores are disappointing and passing rates for AP classes are not impressive. It does not help when teachers say that test results are "not too bad", which translates to mediocrity. The tuition is competitive with other private schools in the area, but students who go to the other private schools get so much more than what Timothy can offer. Timothy Is good for those families who put more value in athletics than academics. You will get more electronic correspondences about athletic events than academic achievements and improvements, even in the summer.

Very disappointed with this school: academics, discipline, extra curricular, clubs, teachers, administration..... so many things are sub par and below standard. Sports though they're always trying to improve. Lots of parents are very frustrated with the school, but feel like they're stuck here just because there are not many other Christian schools around for them to switch their kids to. Especially in the last 2 -3 years, quite a few teachers are constantly angry and in a bad mood, yelling and showing so little patience and grace...Where are the godly examples? This school has undergone many administrative changes there's very little consistency. Curriculum has changed many times, teacher turn over rate is high, students have little school spirit and sense of pride. Got rid of enrichment programs and have had budget cuts that even high school AP courses are affected. The list is long.

Great administration and communication. Teachers care and are very involved in many activities, great athletic program. Evident that school is trying to raise the bar academically---would like to see more oversight of what is actually going on in classrooms, quality and level of teaching.

This school is beyond awful. As a student who left in favor of trying out public school years ago, I can tell you that although TCS claims to be a "college preparatory" school, I came to find out that my new peers in public school were light years ahead of me. It took an extreme amount of time and effort to reach the academic level that my new school demanded of me, but I am forever grateful that I transferred as I would have certainly failed in any attempt at college had I not been forced to improve. As far as the atmosphere at this school, I'm not sure I can find the right words to describe what I experienced there. Looking back, I can only recall bigoted teachers preaching the importance of not associating with Catholics and Jews during science class and also coming to find out that those same teachers were into trash talking with students about their peers. This school was an absolutely miserable experience and I can't stress strongly enough that there are plenty of private and public schools in New Jersey that will be more suited to produce a happy, academically successful student.

Our son has attended this school for the last 7 years. The school staff and the school environment have been such a blessing to him. He has matured into a responsible, kind, Godly young man, He was accepted to his first choice school for college and has done so well academically at TCS, we are confident he will be very successful at college. We would highly recommend this school - especially if you are looking for solid academics in a Godly environment.

If your prospective student is doing well academically, I recommend the school. Solid Christian teaching. If you have an academic "struggler," don't expect the school to do much at all. They drop the ball.

School is great as far as academics go, but a bullying policy is practically non existent. I pulled my child out of the school over this and have known of others to do the same. For a Christian school, these kids are not very Christian like. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

I attended TCS from K-12 and truly believe that I received the best education possible. I felt extremely prepared for college and find myself using lessons I learned at TCS in my everday life for work now. The teachers were extremely knowledgeable and vested in my success and growth not just educationally, but emotionally and spiritually as well! I am so thankful that I was able to attend TCS and receive such a strong foundation for the rest of my life.

This is a great school that is still in evolution. The school staff is constantly trying to find ways to improve academics in the school. This hopefully will help prepare these kids for entry into excellent colleges. The atmosphere is warm and everybody is treated like family. More enrichment progrmans would be nice but funding will be an issue since this school i believe does not get anything from the township. T he school tries to be good stewart of their resources which helps parents a lot. I would definitely recommend this school to any parent .

As a current student I do not like the school. The parents and kids are accepting ONLY if you attend the CRC church nearby. It offers littl college prep in it's highschool as they expect to go into trinity hope or Calvin college. The middle and elementry school offer little challenge and when you or if you transferr intothe public school system or. Any other schools you will be vey behnd. I do not recommend this to anyone looking for their child to have a fun time at school and hoping for uem to go to a decent college.

My son has attended TCS for 6 years now. He loves it as I do, it s been a wonderful experience. We don t have anything but praise for the staff, students and parents. I would like to see the elementary school children challenged more, I think they can handle it. Aside from that, I would like my son to remain at TCS throughout H.S.

My daughter is in 4th grad this year 08-09 & she has been @ TCS since Kindergarden. I dropped her off the first day & said this is where you will be until you graduate high school! The teachers are wonderful & the academics couldn't be better. TCS students are far above average compared to NJ public schools & that is a fact. The graduating seniors 95% go on to 4yr schools & the other 5% a 2 year. Compare that to any NJ public school. My daughter is in the Enrichment program this year which is good health competion for her & I couldn't be more proud to me a parent of aTCS school

TCS is not perfect, but it is a wonderful school. I have had my 2 children there since kindergarden. My oldest will be entering 11th, and my younger one 8th. I have also taught there for a few years as well as volunteer there for even more years. I would recommend this school as a strong adademic as well as spiritual environment. Highlights include: AP classes, student volunteer opportunities, small Bible studies, the annual fair and field day, and the many things others have mentioned here. God bless!

I have four children @ TCS. All started with kindergarten, one is now a sophmore and the others are in middle school. I have been extremely pleased with the school from day one. My children are getting a great education from teachers who truly care about the kids. Their sports program has been improving every year. The school is small enough that the parents can get to know almost all of the families there, yet small enough to give individualized attention to each student. It's a relief also to know that your children's friends families have the same values as yours.

I am extremely satisfied with TCS. I have children in the elementary school. Since becoming a part of the school, I have found it to offer above average academics and great development of character. Overall, the staff is caring and warm. There is a new elementary school principal who seems to be focused on developing the academic program. I highly recommend TCS.

You cannot do better than Timothy Christian School when it comes to Christain values and beliefs. The teachers are wonderful. I question those with negative comments about student behavior. The students are well behaved. They are graded on their behavior as well as demerits and suspension. Sadly, there are times when a student is asked to leave. Timothy is very strict on behavior ... so I am puzzled at the negative comments about student behavior - during class, at lunch, recess or after school - bad behvaior is not tolerated. The academic environment is good ... however I would like science improved. The subject of science needs some beefing up and plans are in the works to improve it. T.C.S. will call parents to remind them of meetings. If parents don't come it's not because T.C.S. doesn't encourage them.

I have had 2 children attend the school, 1 graduating and 1 is a junior, both starting in K. I recommend this school to anyone interested in a quality Christian education for their kids. Wonderful dedicated teachers, great atmosphere for learning. Staff and administrators are first rate. You won't find better in New Jersey.

Our children have attended TCS since kindergarten & we are very satisfied with the school. The very caring staff really works with students/families to resolve behavioral & academic issues. The very diverse student body includes visiting Korean students. Students pray daily & attend chapel weekly. There are many academic opportunities for a small school. Latin, Spanish, & computers are taught at the elementary level. Wood shop is offered in middle school. The music program is excellent. All 4th & 5th graders participate in either choir or band. They offer summer band lessons. There aren't many varsity sports teams, but TCS students can participate in debate, Bible, math, spelling, & Science Fair competitions. There are afterschool clubs for elementary students. Every May, the senior class goes on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Many dedicated parents volunteer in classrooms & at special events (Field Day, Space Shuttle Week, International Festival, etc.).

The teachers are absolutely wonderful, and completely helpful when a student is in need. I have learned more about history and science from the teachers at timothy then anywhere else. Timothy constantly encourages us to read our bibles, and any horseplay done in classes is not tolerated. I have made friends at Timothy that I know I will have for a life time. I commute an hour to go there, and it is 100% worth it, and I know my mom agrees. She DRIVES.

I feel this is an excellent school at a value price, compared to other private schools. The campus is large, although the buildings are not the most updated and certainly could be improved. Most of the students go on the college and score higher than the state average on national tests. The music program is fantastic, with many of the high school students participating. There could be more sports offered but it would be hard to field multiple teams during each season because of the small number of students at the school.

I am not recommending this school. These were our observations. School exhibits below standards for academics or discipline. Far too much horseplay in the classroom detracting significantly from a quality learning environment. High school level Math, Spanish, Sciences were below standard teaching; math the worst of the three. Extracurricular activities were high quality in performance but extensively lacked attention given to character development. Parent involvement, out of 600 or so students attending, a consistent five to ten parents show up at meetings where parents were encouraged to attend. As for safety and discipline, by far this is the worst problem. Discipline procedures are clear but rarely, if ever, carried out. Bullying and oppressive behavior are 'tolerated' far too much. Overall rating, school appears Christian in name only, not in application. Very poorly run administration.

I can not begin to express our diappointment with this School. After searching for 2 years to find a good Christian High School we choose Timothy because of it's high standerd for Honesty, compassion and Christian charater of the Students and staff. Shockingly this is far from the truth, students are disrespectful, rude and hurtful. The compassion and love of Christ is not present anywhere in Administration. I can not recommed this school except in comparing it to the local public school system. I would highly suggest visiting Timothy during lunch hours and really listening to what goes on. Don't listen with your ears - listen with your heart.

The school not only prepares our children to attned the highest of colleges such as Yale, Wheaton, etc. Our children are able to discern truth from fiction that many schools such as Rutgers, and the other higher forms of education teach aabout evolution, moral relativism etc.
