This a very small town trying to pull all the stops. The high school students are no longer allowed to go out for lunch. They have a band program but has gotten smaller in the past year. The school caters greatly to honor students, average students can fall through the cracks without their parents involvement. The school tolerates smoking and bullying outside the school in the morning and after schools. Union county provides a magna School where only A+ students from each union county town can go and are bused half hour before and after school. The students commute between classes which makes students waste precious time. The students are not taught well to be organized, This is a very quiet calm town even with the new influx of people moving in from other towns. Teens here can easily walk from one side of town to the next so kids from all sides of the town are friends. The school like the town is very small. They keep parents on alert to their kids grades by privately sharing grades just for parents/students through teacher ease. Teachers contact through email and daily announcements are also shared with parents through e-mail so less paper is lost.
Weak administration needs to be more sincere and make sound decisions based on what is good for the student as opposed to what makes them look good.
School has changed a lot in just a few years. Lots of new people in the community. Most teachers care. A core group of parents works really hard. Need more parent involvement. Principal is strong and cares for the students and town.
The school has an excellent principal who is very involved with the students. Most of the teachers really care about the kids and there are a number of parents who are very involved. It's usually the same faces but that's the case in any town. At this time there are many extracurriculars but with the upcoming budget cuts, we don't know what will happen.
I think the inability of the school to work with the public health department on issues of truancy, lunch time bullying (being the students go out to lunch) creates a volatile environment for both staff and students. Also the town and schools lack of motivation to clean up obscenities on the outside windows of the school and Union College allowing active recruitment and scholarships awarded to a school that tolerates this is in my mind 'agregious and substantial violation of civil rights'.
