My daughter has attended Tara Schoolhouse for one year. She had been in a medium size public school and by second grade, was suffering from stomach aches each morning anticipating the stress of the day. We enrolled her in Tara Schoolhouse after looking exhaustively at all the private schools in town. After one year at Tara, our daughter has blossomed. She is secure and happy in the small social environment Tara offers, and her fellow students have become like brothers and sisters to her. Academically, the change is night-and-day. Rather than going through the motions and waiting for recess, she is truly excited by learning. The material presented to her is both challenging and interesting, and she brings that excitement home with her at the end of the day. Because of the small size of the school, it is relatively easy to supplement the in-class learning with unique field opportunities: recording Christmas songs in a real recording studio, studying wolves at a week-long science camp in Colorado, visiting the reconstruction of an old adobe church. Now, instead of the morning stomach ache she was getting before, our daughter is excited to go to school. EVERY DAY.
The Tara Schoolhouse has provided children with a unique education that challenges students academically while supporting their emotional and social development. The curriculum is highly personalized, teaches children how to think, and how to learn. Tara has served Santa Fe kids for over twenty years. Students that have graduated from Tara Schoolhouse have succeeded in various high schools and colleges. Namely, Idyllwild Arts Academy, Desert Academy, Williams College, Pratt Art Institute, Santa Fe High School, Oxford University and NYU just to name a few. Most importantly students have become happy, self supporting, and satisfied with their careers thus far.
My son has always received very personal attention from his teachers. They work with him until he fully understands any new concept. Also, great art, music and drama. Great for a creative kid.
Tara School provides a small, multi-age classroom with an individual curriculum for each child. This was idea for my child, who was behind on reading and way ahead in math. She was frustrated by not being able to read at level, and bored to tears with math at her level. Tara teachers are also Reading Specialists, who provide intensive attention to reading as a foundational skill before moving onto other subject areas. Now my daughter is a daily reader, and she's been encouraged to work far ahead of grade level in math and science. She loves going to school each day. Tara School is amazing.
