Regular teachers, special Ed teachers, staff, and St Catherines go above and beyond helping children here. A great rural setting and safe place for children.

BKW is a school being very hard hit by the state aid cuts. Alarge part of the budget is funded by state aid, as opposed to surrounding districts such as V'ville which has only 25 percent of its aid from the state. The result is a proposed high tax rate. This district offers personal attention and genuine caring by all---the PTA is an active fundraiser and a strong contributor to the district. This is a time for the community to rally round and pitch in. Write your state reps.

Great benefit is it's small, and parents can be involved. Hard to find this small town caring anymore. Knowing many of the teachers and parent volunteers allows me to better monitor my children's activities. Unfortunately, I've found the assigned teacher's quality has profoundly impacted the quality of his education. One child had outstanding teachers, and did well. Another had mediocre teachers 3/5 years, and has suffered for it. Getting solid academics is vital to future success. Given the high quality school systems nearby and the high BKW taxes, I've chosen to relocate to a new district next year. For what it is worth, K through 12 ride the same buses, and it has proven to be detrimental to my children.

Berne Elementary has a lot of great programs for the kids. It is a small school with a lot of one on one because of the small classrooms. I have children that are average or above average in their abilities and they do not suffer. This school has helped them grow socially and academically.
