Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

From the PS39 PTA: PS39 is a wonderful school and gem in D15, but it is now facing severe overcrowding with no relief in site. Parents considering moving to the PS39 zone and those already living in the zone must be aware that they are not guaranteed a spot at the school. The DOE is working on trying to find a new school to deal with overcrowding within the zone, but the process is slow.

PS 39 is a wonderful school, perhaps the most well rounded of all the amazing schools in District 15. It is academically excellent, has a tremendous principal, teachers who go above and beyond and a committed parent body. It has small classes and loads of enrichment. Test scores and PTA contributions are rising rapidly. The school just added an after school program in fall 2012. My two children are thriving there.

PS 39 is a gem of a school. The teachers are truly dedicated and the parent association is very strong. There are many school events, such as an nternational potluck dinner, Halloween party, and carnival, where the parents and teachers come together to make this school a true community. Ms. De Paz (principal) is super. My daughter feels great about herself, has many friends, and is academically challenged.

My son trots off to school happily every morning and comes home every afternoon with accounts of all the interesting events and knowledge he has gained throughout the day. The principal is really really smart, aware, caring and approachable, as are the teachers and staff members. Great combo!

P.S. 39 is like the good thing in the small package. It is a small building but, the education is huge. Children learn all they need to know to become achievers. We are very proud of all of the children in the school. I personally love them all.

A true neighborhood school, where all the kids know each other--and all the teachers know all the kids! PS 39's small size means small class size and more attention from the excellent, dedicated staff. The past four years, under Principal Anita DePaz have seen the school grow and flourish--our kids love it!

I have to disagree with the last reviewer's comment about working parents not being welcome at PS 39. My husband and I both work full-time and have a daughter in Kindergarten at PS 39 (she started last year for pre-k). We have always felt welcome at school, and found her teachers and the administration willing and able to communicate with me via phone, email or in person when I have been able to be at school. This year, I am a class parent, involved in fundraisers and truly enjoying meeting many new people at the school. There's an active Yahoo group for parents to keep up with the issues of the school, and no shortage of information that comes home each day. PS 39 is a special place, one my daughter feels very much at home in, and one I appreciate more and more each day.

PS 39 is the best elementary school ever! It's one of the oldest school houses in the city, which makes it very intimate and warm.

PS39 is like a second family. It's an incredible community of teachers and parents who are wonderful influences for our kids. My daughter has learned so much and we have made treasured friendships. The school's approach to teaching each individual child based on their needs is outstanding. They provide excellent support to the teachers to make sure they have the tools to assess and challenge every child in the class room. They all deserve gold medals.

It's warm and friendly, it's small and everyone knows each other; all the teachers know all the kids, there are no hallways, the kids walk from room to room through classrooms and don't disturb the class that's going on; the teachers get G&T education without imposing a G&T structure, so there's no feeling of elitism; the principal is warm and smart and welcoming and has been there in one position or other for over 2 decades, and my child is thriving! she was adopted and she's just thriving!

PS 39 is a small and very welcoming school where the excellent teachers are excited to be teaching there. Everyone who works in the school knows almost all the children by name. It feels like a family. The teachers are progressive, caring, and good collaborators. My kids love it!

This is a great school as long as you are an envolved parent but if you work for get about it. They tell you whatever you want to herer and talk about you later.

After having my child in catholic school i never thought that he would get the same type of education in a public school. Well i stand corrected, this school is one of the best. I am satisfied with the academics. He is growing and learning from some of the best teachers i have known so far. Mrs. Herbert is a wonderful teacher and my child enjoys school because of her.

My daughter started Kindergarten in P.S. 39 in Sept 2004. She is going on to 1st grade and I have had the opportunity to put her in another school but choose not to because 39 is a school where the children come first and every child I have come across is so very happy to be there. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best without the feeling of competing with others. The teachers work hard to bring out the best in every child. Mr. Mateo is the best and knows each child by name. He is a great example of the type of person you want leading your child. Thank you 39 for bringing out the best in my daughter and giving her the encouragement and confidence she needs to go out there and be confident in herself and her learning ability.

This school is an undiscovered gem and a true neighborhood school -- with an excellent teaching staff. The school's small size and unique building give students a sense of ownership and community since the teacher's get to know all the students. This, coupled with excellent teachers, a strong curriculum and variety of extracurriculars, have made my child's school experience extremely positive.
