Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

There are many great teachers at Seth Low however there are many useless ones too! Thankfully, some are on their way to retirement and the new Principal is hiring better ones. The former principal Ms Levinsky single hand idly destroyed Seth Low. It may have a A rating but the behavior problems that exist within the walls are overbearing. Staff is responsive to a certain point, then parents are totally ignored. Most students come from outside our district and bring in trouble. Parental involvement is nonexistent . Enrollment continues to drop but can you blame parents? Having your child due time at a JD center can sometimes compare to Seth Low. Unfortunately this is our public school system! There are VERY few middle schools that actually weed out the bad seeds. With this Success Academy coming in September, it is only a matter on time before Seth Low is phased out. Unless they make some drastic changes to control behavior!

As other parents and students already said, bullying is rampant. Recent immigrants get a lot of abuse, and the teachers & administration often turn a blind eye.

In response to the parent that wrote "this school is very bad.......students cant wear coats or drink water in class". YES, there are rules in school that must be followed. As a parent it troubles me very much when other "parents" blame schools, like Seth Low, for their child's lack of respect for school and teachers and lack of their ability to function appropriately. Seth Low is a good school in a great diverse community. The teachers go out of their way to support students as does the administration. Its the PARENTS that need to step up their game and get more involved in their childs school and education. Its easier to point fingers and lay blame to the school than to look at your child. Seth Low scores an A which was well deserved.

this school is very bad when my child first went to that school is was OK but then it turned out to be horrible! The teachers were not that good the rules there are stupid like don't where your coat in class or don't drink water in class. The kids are miserable and they teachers don't teach good at all!! If you want your kid to be happy don't send him/her there!

People are right parents should be more involve but overall it isn't a bad school. Right now I am in the 7th grade and I love it actually instead of some of my classmates they get on my nerves a lot. There are barely any fights. I would suggest you not to start drama unless if you wanna start a riot or something. It's like an average school.

My child attends sixth grade and from what we have experienced so far, Seth Low is a good school. I am not sure why this school has such a bad rap . It just rec'd an "A" grade up from a "C" while other schools in NYC went down due to the nys exams last year...this school went up. That clearly tells me that both teachers and students are working hard. My son is challenged in school and has plenty to do. FRom what he tells me, he has not seen any bullying or fights and feels safe and my son is a very sensitive kid. Now with any school with almost 800 students, there are bound to be issues. Its up to the parents to be involved with their child's education. One thing I can say is that parental involvement is the lowest I have seen in any school, which is a shame. How can you not be invovled in your child's school? It very baffling.

I'm currently attending this school and I think that this school is WONDERFUL! The teachers challenge kids with hard questions, but explain each and every step carefully, so that all the students understand it. The teachers never give up on their students, and do what they can to help them! I dont know why people say its bad, but its actually GREAT! Students receive grades that they deserve on the report card, and this schools challenges students in many ways. These challenges increases knowledge and can help you achieve many things in high school AND college.

Hello! I am a Freshman at Seth low and I am very satified with this school. I am in one of the top classes whish is 6-1 and they give us a more vicious curiculum. This year was fun but Mr.Fein left and we got a new principal named Ms.Levinsky and she restricted most of our fun activities.Mr.Fein was on my principal for 3 months and then he left. The school is not much fun without him.I understand that we should focus on our school but sometimes we should be able to have fun.

I am a new teacher at Seth Low, and I am very, very, very impressed with the responsiveness of the guidance counselors and the deans when there is an issue-- or even a hint-- of disruption, violence, bullying or even in-class insubordination. Many administrations I've worked under (as a sub and full-time) would rather blame teachers for not knowing how to deal with students who are openly defiant and have obvious behavioral disorders or are 'at-risk' in the extreme, rather than supply the needed services and risk being perceived as a 'problem school', but schools like are just creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Seth Low is refreshingly conservative in this respect; they quickly nip issues in the bud with what seems like an army of support, allowing teachers to actually teach! Who'd've thought that a middle school would have the safest and most orderly environment I've ever seen in the NYC DOE?

Seth Low has a new principal now. Mrs.Levinsky. She is great, But when Mr.Fein was there it was more fun. I love my school and I wish the discipline was better. My mom works there and I feel safe not even because of that. You can open up to certain teachers and they will respond the same. I love math and English. I have Mr.Philip and Ms.Ashear who are wonderful. But the kids want their fun back. We had one party each month and we still want that. I knew the circumstances of why things jad to be taken away because of budget issues but this is a school. It has kids and I think we should all speak our mind and be a little more invilved.

Hi, My name is Kadesha Glasgow. I am an Alumni from Seth Low class 08. i haven't been so happier to know such a school as this. This school helped me so much, and it has helped me become a better person. it has allot of activities, i actually took part of the violin program for my full 3yrs in Seth low and i wouldn't wish for nothing else. I love the school. It has an great community, very nice and quiet. the teachers were very friendly and was always there if u needed any help. The staff is very strict with discipline, and from a child's point of view, we need that every now and then. Thank You Seth Low!

I have so many friends and so many teachrs who know me. The dean in our school for 6th grade is so funny and helps us with our problems in school. The guidence counselor Ms. klein is so nice and I and other children are comfortable in talking about there private issues with her.

The teachers and the principal are very nice there. It's a pretty good school, the lunch is free, and there are alot of activites going on. However, many kids get into fights real easy. this makes it hard for teachers to teach and also makes it hard for students to learn. It's a great school, but there should be better discipline.

Seth Low is an amazing school! The teachers are great, and very supportive of their students. Unlike many schols, Seth Low is almost as clean as a school can get. I was in the honors program at Seth Low, and I have to say, it was a fine programs. The teachers made school fun for those who found it bland. I is very easy to get to know people around the building, since there are many extracurricular activities, and the faculty is very friendly. I just graduated in June, and I have to be honest, I was CRYING throughout the entire ceremony. Seth LOw will always remain true to my heart

I was very excited when my child selected by a special programm for this school. But it was a very big disappointment. The princible and his Crew are very professional and helpful towards parents but there are alot of discipline issues. Sure the school is improving day by day and has alot of after school programs but I am not sure to keep my kid in this school or not.

Once upon a time there was a great Mayor named Seth Low. I recommend that one google or 'wikipedia' that great name. So as a Dad of a 7th Grader attending therein, and by interacting with his Teachers these past two years or so, I think Barry Fein (Captain of the school) along with his beautiful Crew, are very professional, serious and dedicated about upholding their Public duty's to ALL parents and child equally. This includes Government. Upon observation their curriculum options and teaching styles are unique and I think thay are meeting their objectives.

Seth Low has a multi-ethnic community, however, the teaching staff is very uncommunicative. They do not notify parents as quickly as they should if your child is experiencing academic problems. The teaching staff, although there are some decent teachers, has alot to be desired. I plan on taking my son out of this school before he ends up in a nowhere high school.
