Ps. 255 was a saving grace for my son. The school treats ALL of their students, including those with IEPs, with respect and attention to their needs. Thanks to them he has flourished, and I will be heartsick in June when he graduates! The principal and staff are wonderful, and they have an active Parents Association which involves all parents (if the parents are willing to be involved).
I am a graduate of this school, and I enjoyed my time being there. The majority of the teachers are nice, understanding, and willing to help a child out as much as possible. Being in this school helped me get to being in the CIG program in Cunningham, and the Biomed program in James Madison High School with a 95 average.
p.s 255 is the best school in brooklyn. my brother and sisters went to p.s 255 now they in one of the best high school in brooklyn.
If I could give this school negative stars, I would. My daughter attended kindergarten at this school and it was the most traumatic experience of her, and my, life. This school is large with a large immigrant population, which is great in terms of diversity, but no so great in terms of a unified parent body as many parents (and children) don't speak English. My daughter was scared there, and had some scary, disturbing experiences. When brought to the attention of the school, I was told to ignore her. Parents are not allowed in the school, and I was kicked out more than once. I was reprimanded by trying to talk to my daughter's teachers. Other parents felt that the school was uncommunicative and intimidating as well. Teachers openly yell at students, the administration rewards this type of teaching, and there is no room to question them. Be very wary!
Im a graduate of '05 and i have to say the school is very good. I enjoyed my senior year because we had the lovely Mrs.Silber to help with the school shows. PS255 has a bunch of great teachers and staff. Best security guard ever, was Dorthy. I have no complaints about the school except that now the kids have become quite a bit more snobby and well.. if you compare.. short. Lovely elementury school.
I'm a parent of a student at this school althought most of the teachers are very good there are a few that still need experience because they are young or new. The administration for the most part is helpful.
The principal at this school is very poor at commuticating with parents. Most of the teachers here are good but the ones that stand out are Mrs. O'Grady for 1st grade and Mrs. Feldman for Pre-k. they go above and beyond for the children. The rest of the administration is pretty good.
We were very lucky to be in Ms. Bernstein k-121 class.Ms Bernstein is a remarkable teacher that possesses great love for her students and her work. She is avery knowledgeable and talented educator. Ms Bernstein is a great pride to P.S.255.Thank you for everything.
great school especialy eagle program
Staff morale is at an all-time low in this school. Everyone is so tense, the children are the ones who suffer because everyone is on edge. All who enter here better keep their opinions to themselves, the walls in this school have ears and they run straight to the office to report what they overhear. The principal and assistant principals are only concerned with the scores the kids recieve on their city and state wide tests and not with the manner in which the kids are taught. I'd rather have my child go to a school where the staff is happy in their work and do a great job than one that might get good scores but the enviroment is one that is very unhappy.
